I dont know if i can get through not smoking. Ive smoked for 43 years. Ive put myself through so much mental turmoil about smoking that ive gotten very depressed. I started the step one patch 12 days ago and i just broke down and smoked a cigarette. What is wrong with me? Why do i struggle so much to quit something so nasty? Im scared it's going to be something i cannot do.

Hi mlmsovid! It’s an addiction and a very hard one to beat, nothing is wrong! be gentle with yourself, it’s normal to feel down because nicotine messes up chemicals in your brain. Just take it easy and keep going it can get easier in a near future if you overcome this phase. Good luck xx

Hello Mlmsovid😊

I’m struggling with depression as well. I can’t tell if it’s The winter blues or just the withdrawal process .

I nearly lit up today but somehow I came to my senses using fear as my motivator.

I’m seriously afraid what cigarettes can do to us: stroke, COPD , throat cancer etc

Keep strong. I know we think a Cigg will help... nope

Addiction is cunning

It is difficult and exhausting. You did brilliantly through twelve days ☺I know it's disappointing but just try again. You CAN do this.

You can and will do this Mlmsovid, just pick up yourself up and start again. There is no point in beating yourself up. We learn from our slips and we call them trial runs leading up to the big stop. Go easy on yourself girlchild, you'll get there xxx

There is nothing wrong with you it’s just the nature of addiction unfortunately. You managed 12 days smokefree so that’s brilliant. Try using an extra NRT like gum or mints for those extra tough times.

One day at a time and you can do this. Keep fighting for your freedom💐😊x

Don't beat yourself up about it.

You have to be in the right frame of mind to try or you will fail before you begin. It is a nasty addition - someone once told me nicotine is as additive as cocaine - and it's also like the devil on your shoulder tapping away at your brow whispering 'just one, one won't hurt' 😈😈

My advice would be:

1. read Allan Carr's book is it helps adjusting your thinking towards nicotine ( and you can smoke at the same time - if you haven't yet quit)

2. take each day, hour or minute at a time as if you think this is forever it's very soul destroying during the early days.

Remember that you are not actually in pain or dying - withdrawal is your body's way of repairing itself after years of abuse.

Good luck whenever you decided your time is right

Just keep swimming

Mlmsovid:

It is extremely common to "slip." But do not let that deter you. Keep on with the plan.

The surgeon general here once said it was more addictive than heroin. (I know addicts that quit heroin and still smoke).

I used Chantix. It took 6 months. There were many slips. If the way you are trying does not work for you, then go to the next method. Eventually, your brain will give up and decide it is quitting. You will feel so free and proud once you quit.

It was almost 50 years for me, too. Now I have been smoke free for 2 years! I now cannot stand the smell of the smoke and I get lung issues if I am around it.

I had tried all methods from patches, to pills, to hypnotherapy. (Group hypnotherapy are a waste, but a one on one good hypnotherapists does work).

Good luck to you and may the best method work!

youtube.com/watch?v=VyJUD6L... try this. it's the easy way to stop smoking by Allen Carr. I found out about it in a comment about e cigarettes in a news article. I'm on day 3 of no fags, no nrt, just this audio book. I was on 20 plus a day for 18 years. It's brilliant.

Hi there, please don't knock yourself for something you are trying to do.

This quit thing is flipping hard, I'm only 3 weeks in and my mood swings are getting worse.

Just dust yourself off, stand proud and tall and give it another go. Give yourself credit that you are trying. All the best 😘🌹👍🏻

I've smoked for a long time too! Today is day 9 and I was at a pack a day. So that's 180 smokes I haven't had..try doing it that way. Count the cigs you haven't smoked. It adds up fast. The nicotine gum helps a lot.

Thank you. I know i have a lot of good reasons why i need to quit but when im craving a cigarette they seem to go out the window. I guess i need a better quit plan.

My back is sore from slipping back to a cig. I understand the mental strain. We all have our own process to work through this. The main point I think is to not quit trying.
