Day 4

I have not found this day better! I went back to work, as we all must eventually, and I told all my coworkers to hold me accountable. Man it was hard, from the minute I got up! I ended up taking a Benadryl during the day just to bring myself down from the anxious, crawling out of my skin feeling. The only positive has been I don't have increased appetite, I actually don't want to eat much when I sit down for meals. I made it, but questioned more than any other day wanting to smoke just to rid myself of feeling this way.

I hit that wall at day 5&6. My hubby still smokes, we're not saving any money from me quitting because he was buying tailor made a not tobacco and I was like.... What the hell am I doing this for. Lack of sleep, vivid dreams from the NRT, I am more hungry and I gained 1kg in a day. I was horrified. But i pushed through the two days, took the NRT off for bed and drink water when I know I shouldn't be hungry and my hubby after I explained my thoughts is going to try quitting today. Fingers crossed. It does get better. You just need to find your reason for quitting and stick to it. You CAN do this! 😀🎉

Thank you for your support. I just keep waiting to wake up and feel "this is manageable" instead of how I feel. My husband quit a few days before me, he's on day 9. He didn't seem to struggle as much, either he's tougher or we're just all different.

Lol we're all different. It's taken me years of saying I'm going to quit to get to here. My husband on the other hand can say I'm quitting and not have another one and then just start up again as easy as he stopped. He quit for 3 years once. Everyone is different. You will get there, don't stress on that. Are you using anything to help or just going cold turkey?

I've been using a vape at home, nicotine gum at work where I can't vape. I don't know if it's the environment or the NRT itself, I'm finding it easier when I can vape though.

NRTs help. I've never tried the vape but have found the patches work beautifully through the day (not so great for sleeping though). I still have rough patches in the afternoon so I have the 2mg gum for then to tide over. 😊 It does get better.

Hi akatinamarie. No increased appetite is NOT the only positive. Another is that you have made it through another day without smoking. This is a massive achievement.

It sounds like you're finding this really hard. I was the same. The first week is hell. Have you thought of using some NRT patches or gum? It is still hard but it takes the edge off and stops you wanting to bite everyones head off!!

It's a hard journey I've been where you are. The first week is the worst then it slowly gets better. It takes time and you just do what you need to to get through it.

Stay on quit support. Everyone will help you and support you. And it is a great distraction.

Congratulations on getting through day four. Over half way through the hardest week. 🚭😀

Thanks Andrew. This week is awful! I'm going to do it, this forum has helped a lot! Nice to have support from those who are succeeding and know what it's like. I am using NRT, and some moments are better than others.

This forum is amazing. Everyone will support you. Good you using the vape and the gum at work. You could try the inhalator as well at work they surely can't object to that? I used to love the inhalator.

Just keep fighting through it and you'll do fine then the weeks start building up. 😀

Well done aka on getting through day 4👍 the first week is the most challenging and we have all been there and I myself plus many others are convinced that it will not get easier but it does. Andrew has already said to do whatever it takes to stay off the cigs especially in the first few weeks because this will make you stronger to reduce or cut out the NRT over time. Stay strong and try and have a think today of anything that feels better compared to day 1. This may help you see that things are actually improving however small. I think we do have a tendency to overlook positives when we are struggling 😄

Hi akatinamarie , hang on your doing great, and you got through your first day at work as a non smoker, so Proud of you, well done 😊 It will get easier, and every day will become a little more easier. You will have bad days and then good. Hold your head up and be Proud, it is so worth it in the end. You will soon have a week behind you.

Hope today is a better day

Maddy 😊

First off, well done! You have made a great start by prepping the quit & giving the co-workers the heads up so that they can offer support in your place of work. This can always give you an extra boost on these hard days. Keep your reasons for quitting at the front of your mind, your body & mind will adjust to the new you it will just take time.

The last thing you want to do is take a puff, not one puff ever is the only motto you will need, was crucial for my quit.

Good luck and keep up the good work!
