Ct from car accident showed mild bronchial thickening and nodules 2,3 and 4 mm. Is this a death sentence?

Hi 56_2 and welcome to quit support.

Neither bronchial thickening or nodules is necessarily doom n gloom. Your health professionals will be able to give you more information on this and I would certainly suggest to make an appointment.

If you are a smoker, quitting will help prevent any further damage.

Have a read of the information on the right hand side of the screen as you may find some useful information or alternatively there is a lung support group on the health unlocked site that may help you.

This sure is the place to be if you are quitting smoking :) :)

Please let us know if you are a smoker or have started your quit journey :) :)

I quit two days after finding out one week ago. I see the pulmonologist in two weeks. The ER Dr said to follow up in one month and repeat CT in 6-12 months. I have terrible anxiety and can't stop thinking about this. Just hope I can stop any progression. Is that possible?

By quitting smoking, your certainly are giving yourself the best possible chance to stop any progression.

If it was too serious, you would be getting a CT scan alot sooner. Generally with nodules, they are monitored for any changes and the sizes you have said are the most common size and almost always are benign.

Try not to worry too much, as that will not help you at all :) :) You cant change anything, all you can do is give yourself the best possible chance with your health and you are already doing that by quitting smoking :) :)

Just be aware that when you start quitting smoking, it is very common to feel worse before you feel better but I promise you, it will get better :) :)

It was a health scare that got me quitting smoking just over a year ago, we tend to have our heads in the sand and think, it wont happen to me :D :D ..

We do have a great support group here, so keep us close by, we will do our best to support you along your quit journey :) :)

Let me know you actual quit date and I will add you to the wall of winners :) :)

Try and feel proud of yourself for making the decision to quit smoking :) )

All the very best on your quit journey..

NOPE = Not One Puff Ever...thats is our little mantra that helps us stay focused :) :)

Thank you so much! My son told me the accident and CT scan was a blessing in disguise. My quit date was July 5th. This forum is a great idea.

I love this forum, I am in Australia and we don't have nothing like it here. I just love it and have watched so many people start their quit journey and travel the road with them. I feel very blessed to be able to do this.

I quit June last year after 40 years of 30 a day :D :D I did ot cold turkey and have never looked back..suffered a bit in the early months, but so worth it now :) :)

Stay strong :) :) as that is the key

Thank you! Everything I read about cops is just doom and gloom. There has to be some encouraging news!

Do yourself a massive favour and don't go surfing the net for info. More often that not the information is over exaggerated and this will just add to unnecessary anxiety. Rely on your health specialists and when you see them, go prepared with a list of questions that you want him/her to explain :) :) This will then give you peace of mind :) :)

my chest got that tight, honestly I had to brace myself if i was going to sneeze, I felt like my ribs were going to break in two.

I am sure you will fell a lot better after seeing the pulmonologist.

Good to know. This whole process is scary and sometimes you can feel so all alone. Are there others out there who have advice or encouragement?

Besides the chest tightness I also have a sob. Not sure if it is anxiety or what.

Hiya 56 and welcome to quit support😊

Well done on making the very best decision for your health👍🏼

No one can tell what the future holds, all we can do is stop anymore damage to our bodies and by quitting now, you are giving yourself the best chance of a healthier future, so well done👏🏼

Chest tightness and sob are classic withdrawal symptoms and will pass as your body gets used to not having 4000 chemicals every time you light up. Give your body time to start healing, be patient and be proud of every day you're smoke free😊x

Wow I am so glad that I joined this forum. I worry constantly and always surf the internet. They always show the worse case scenario so I should stop. Am I crazy to do this to myself?

Briarwood profile image
BriarwoodAdministratorLONG TERM WINNER in reply to 56_2

No you're not crazy although it helps as we're all a bit crazy too😂

Doctor Google is not a good idea but most people can't resist😳 my advice is stay close to this site and lots of helpful advice from members experiences which is far better and if in doubt, always seek your Doctors opinion......... Way more accurate😉x

I know. Ct scan said mild bronchial thickening and miniscule nodules. Pulmonologist is best and also think I should see a gastro Dr for lifelong stomach issues which always got dx with IBS. I just need to stay calm and be glad it is all early stages. Thanks for listening

Try the breathing excercises on here to help you relax and we're always happy to listen. A problem shared is always better than worrying about it. Just remember NOPE, not one puff ever and take one day at at a time and you'll be fine😊x

You guys are great! I think I just want reassurance that I caught things early. What do you think?

Briarwood profile image
BriarwoodAdministratorLONG TERM WINNER in reply to 56_2

Mild is a good sign, means it's not severe so look at the glass as being half full and not half empty😉x
