Day 6 of being a Smoke Free Winner.

I smoked for 35 years and most of those years had been as a 2 pack a day smoker. Can not explain what happened but on May 10th I decided enough was enough. Since that day each time I have had an urge for a cigarette I have started counting 5, 10, 15 hey that was my winning date. Don't get me wrong it has been bruttle. 24 hours in I found this web-site when I goggled "Gums on Fire from quitting smoking". Day 2 by 10am I was convinced I was going to murder the next person that pissed me off, instead I sent one of my employees to the store to buy me some patches, they have helped. Day 3, again 10am real craving, same thing around 2pm. Day 4. again 10am and 2pm. Day 5 same thing again, that was when I realized that those 2 cigarettes were my excuse to step away from my desk and have a break. Think I will have to buy some roller blades and lap the building at those times. Find it real interesting that those are the only 2 cigs out of 50 that I have missed each day. Yup may have to get those Roller Blades. Evenings are hard because I am at home and my other half is still smoking. Maybe he will become a Smoke Free Winner once he sees me succeed. Could be a hard Long Weekend for me though as I will be home for 3 days straight with him smoking those same 2 packs a day. Wish me well PLEASE, as I keep counting 5, 10, 15. Hugs a Happy Smoke Free days to everyone. K

Hiya Kaelie and a big warm welcome to quit support 😃

Congratulations on making the very best decision to quit, yes it's hard but you can do it. I see your other half is still smoking and so is mine, so please don't let that put you off. It's harder but still possible. Make sure you send him outside or should I say kick him outside to smoke 😂 The gums are very painful too, I suffered big time with them and I can promise you it will get easier. Hang in there and read lots of posts on here when you feel like murdering someone, errrrr preferably before you commit the crime😱 Well done to you for counting, yes that's a good idea and deep breathing also helps. Lots of water and lots of walks help too. We are here to help you so welcome to our quit family😃😃xx

Welcome kaelie😀

Congratulations on quitting 🎉🎉

My hubby still smokes as well and I thought it would be difficult but if anything it makes me more determined to be a non smoker😀

If you've not read easy way to stop smoking by Allen Carr, maybe give it a go not the best written book but it certainly helped me and many others 😄

Oh if you really need to murder somebody I can send you my hubby, he won't mind 😂😂😂

Hi Kaelie and welcome to quit support :) :)

Congratulations on making the best decision you can for your own health :) :)

I can certainly relate to having times of the day where the cravings were bad and like you mine too was at work. Going out for smoke was my 5 minute escape from my desk. Once i realised that, i would go outside armed with coffee and used that few minutes reminding myself that i can do this :) :)

6 days down, you are certainly through the worst :) loves your method of counting :) :)

Download and app on your phone to track how much money your not spending on smokes, yours will grow fast :D :D .. thats a good reinforcement for me :)

All the very best of luck on your quit journey..we are all here to help out any way we can..come vent..do what ya need to do without having a smoke :) :)

Well done for quitting without any aids. :)

I have quit with the help of tablets.

I too have the work routine cravings but by drinking loads of water for the half hour leading up to my craving time (9:30) I need to go to the toilet usually missing what would have been my 5 minute smoke lol.

I have also found the longer I am smoke free the more offensive I am finding the smell of smoke especially when I am in the lift in work with those who have just come in from having a smoke.

Good luck x

Hi Kaelie, Congrats from me on deciding to quit the cigarettes, best thing you will ever do for your Health and Wealth.

Yeah it's tough, and I take my hat off to you quitting without any aids.

My hubby still smoking, I hate the smell of him now, he does smoke outside but wherever he goes in the house I can smell stale smoke !! so that's how I know I must have smelt before quitting. YUCK !! :-D

Stay Strong, You CAN do this, :-)

Good afternoon Mrs Sunny :)

I hope your well :)

Yes, isnt it funny, when we smoked we couldnt smell the smoke on ourselves or anybody else :o but now we have quit, we can smell a smoker at a hundred paces :D :D it just goes to show, how the toxins in a cigarette could manipulate our smell buds and trick us that we didnt smell/stink :o

Take care now Mrs S and see's ya soon :) :)

Congratulations on choosing to quit. I found this website at the end of my first day (day 9 today). What I have found the most helpful when I really have an urge for a cigarette is actually reading everyones comments on post. Half way through my second day I did end up having to get the patch, it has helped to take the bite out of cravings by keeping a steady level of nicotine in my body. Today I had an hour long meeting (a weekly meeting) I spent 45 minutes of the meeting wishing I could escape and have a cig. When the meeting was over I went to my office and used the deep breathing exercises on here. After 10 minutes the craving was gone. This meeting is abviously a trigger for me, I think I will need to cancel them for at least the next 2 months (lol). Thank goodness I was able to work through the craving with the breathing exercises. Happy smoke free days to you!
