hi all, i am 50 year old with emphysema who has just quit smoking with the help of champix...i have to say that apart from a few horrible side effects, i couldnt have quit without it.... my cravings are few and i just dont want to smoke anymore....

i havent had any stressful situations in the last 3 days, so im a bit worried that its all too good to be true....

im interested in hearing peoples tricks for staying quit in the face of temptations, or dont you get temptations? im thinking of making a mantra for myself in those times, any suggestions?

Hiya Jayh and welcome to quit support 😃 congrats on 3 days quit, well done 😃

Yes it's a great idea to make a plan for when temptations strike and unfortunately they can strike when you least expect it 😥 lots of hints and tips on the right of this page and ways to distract you from any cravings that might strike. Being prepared for what's ahead is half the battle and lots of lovely people here to help as well 😀😀 x

I stopped smoking with the aid of champix, my mantra ... "There's nothing in a cigarette that your body actually needs to function" ... Make sure you take the full course the more days smoke free the easier it is to be a non smoker, and if possible visit a stop smoking group once a week and most importantly make sure you treat yourself and remind yourself how well you're doing, it's an awesome thing you are doing for your health :) xxx

I also quit with Champix and I couldn have done it without it. I had to take Gravol with every champix pill as it upset my stomache and it kind of drained my energy. That being said, the few side effects are minor compared to the benefits.

I am struggling more now of learning what life is as a non smoker than actually wanting to smoke. I am finding hard adapting to this new life but this struggle is worth it and smells refreshing. If you read my profile I quit at a difficult time in my life so when the next hardship comes along I won't have to use it for an excuse or a trigger.

You are doing and great amd keep the quit! 😀

One other thing- that was my 3rd attempt with champix, I always stopped taking them before the 12 weeks, when I was overconfident that I wouldn't smoke and didn't need them- and in no time I would be smoking again, this time I did the full 12 weeks and still not a smoker!!!!

Hi jayh 😊

Well done on your quit 😀

I've had a few stressful situations during my quit and the strange thing was I didn't have a craving for a cigarette just more of the I should be having one. My personal mantra was "why would I want I cigarette? I don't smoke" I

This held me in good stead and I believe conditioned my brain into thinking like a non smoker 😊

I also share Briar's mantra of NOPE.

Keep up the good work you're doing great 😃

Xx

Fantastic, well done. I keep telling myself I am a non smoker now, end of. Why would any non smoker ever want to start smoking? Nobody would, especially ex smokers with all that inside knowledge and experience behind them! Works for me, keep upping yourself and give yourself a high five everytime your old manipulative Mr Nic taps on your shoulder and you shoo him off.

Make it a SMART goal - specific , measurable, attainable, relevant, timebased.

Keeping a positive mindset is vital- think of what you want and not about what you don`t want. Stay focused on your benefits.

Smokers all stop one day- it`s just who decides : you or the cigarette .

Happy Easter.

Hi Jayh and welcome to quit support.

Well done on your 3 days :) :)

Making plans to prepare you for temptations and cravings is a good idea as the more prepared you are, the better it will be for you. Plan for situations that you may be in eg going out for a meal, or family get togethers where you may be subjected to smokers. Let everyone know you have quit.

The NOPE Not One Puff Ever Mantra is very popular around here and it certainly works for me :)

All the very best on your quit Journey :) :)

Hi ya Jayh, a big warm welcome to our lovely quit support site :) and a massive well done to you for getting to 4 days quit now :) :)

I see you've had loads of great advice from some of our members already :) :)

I've used champix and very good it was too :) BUT, I got flippin cocky and cut it short :o and lit up again some days after :( sooooo, please, please stick to the full course :)

You must eat something when you take the tabs, I used to have a couple of digestive bics when it wasnt meal times and they did the trick, they stopped that sickly feeling :)

My mantra is NOPE, Not One Puff Ever :)

You hold your head up high and be PROUD of yourself :)

Pete :)

thanks everyone for your positive messages and great advice....the support really helps me deal with the monkey! i dont ever want to smoke again so i am really going to be smart and do everything i can to be in the best position when i get the urge...I can do it!!! thanks again.. :)
