GRANNY FOR SALE .......................

One previous owner, vintage body work, kind nature, good runner, can knit, crochet and makes a mean shepherds pie! ..... seriously I am so desperate for a ciggie I feel like selling my Granny :)

I have no idea why, but the last couple of weeks have been really tough for me wanting to smoke a real one! I dropped my nicotine from 2.4 to 1.6 but today I am going to have to put it back up to 2.4 as the urge to buy a pack of benson and hedges is so bad. :(

I feel a bit like a failure as I have managed all this time, through quite a tricky time, and now I am having to go back to square 1, and up my nicotine, which worries me for the future :( as I am going to have to drop it again, and then this struggle is waiting for me.

Anyone else on an Ecig with the same issues? x

Well pinkie that's a hell of a drop in nicotine, no wonder! I started on 1.8 and yesterday got 1.2 coz it's all they had and I have to say it's like sucking fresh air. Have you tried mixing it so it's not back up to 2.4 but somewhere in between, the guy in the shop said to mix mine so it's not such a big drop, does that make sense to ya? Hope so x :)

Hi Briar, I might try mixing it first, my brand only does 2.4 then 1.6, i wish they did a 1.8 that would seem a better drop :) x

Al, Al, Al rather than buying your Granny from you, how about you let us all look after her in exchange for a whole load of love and support sent right back to you?! We can return her to you at a later date ;-) :D xx

You are most certainly not a failure, how can somebody who has come so far and still keeps on keeping on be a failure?!

In fact, do you know what? I think this may be how Sin feels too trying to reduce her nicotine intake - only it's been a lot longer for her. I'm sure she'll pop on later and offer her advice too.

When stopping smoking or even stopping the use of nicotine - in whatever form you take it, I think that the same process needs to happen within the person's mind... Thinking, planning, setting a goal and then going for it. On top of this I also believe that you also have to consider both the physical and the psychological impact that you may (and probably will) go through. Most of the effort will go into and come from the psychological side. This is where we look at whatever it may be (NRT, cigarettes, e-cigs etc) as a crutch and then have to work at it to turn it on it's head and focus on the positive in that it is the person that stops smoking with the help of their chosen product - and not the other way around.

With regards to cutting your nicotine intake down, (as you know I am still trying to get my head around how the measuring and monitoring of how the e-cigs work) is there any way you can just try and reduce the amount of times a day you are using it? Kind of like cutting down smoking cigarettes fo a couple of days / weeks / months until you are ready to move onto the next stage of stopping altogether?

If you look at you use of the e-cig as though they were a regular cigarette, then maybe that is a better starting point.

You'll be at your 3 month mark pretty soon and what you are going through is normal for somebody at this time. Remember that those nicotine receptors you have? They are still being fed but probably no where near as much as when you were a full time cigarette smoker. Many of them will have piped down now but you will need to start getting the rest of them top shut up too :-/

Right, how about us sending your Granny back to you now? :D

Thanks EmJay, I think for now I am going to mix the lower and higher level nicotine, just until i get through this phase, i will be ragging if i go back to smoking so just need to ride through this storm, and then sit down and make a plan to get back down on the nicotine, I have set a date that i want to be ecig free by christmas, so its not an unrealistic time frame i feel. But freaked out by how tough the last 2 weeks have been. Maybe its just a combination of a lot of things that have happened lately and now I am a bit calmer its all just catching up on me. Just need to keep my guard up and stop making excuses as to why i should go buy some fags! x

Sounds like a good plan Al ;-) You are right, you have been through so much and on top of that stayed quite headstrong within your attempt at stopping smoking and learning to stay stopped. It's not surprising that things will catch you up. In the past you would have dealt with it as a smoker, now your new life as a non-smoker means that you have to react and deal with it in a different way :-)

We have every confidence in you though ;-)

As for you e-cig, perhaps you have cut it down tooooo far in 1 go :o cos from, 2.4 mg - 1.6 mg is a big step eh :o :)

Awwww Pete, i dropped from 2.4 to 1.6 as it is the only lower one my brand does, there is no 2.0 or 1.8 which would have been better, I have now bought the higher stuff, but mixed it with the lower stuff so will see how i get on.

I think you are bang on the money, i think now everything has calmed down in my life, and i am in a quieter place in my head, that the cravings have started. But i am hoping to keep them in check xx
