Hi Russ-heat, Welcome to quit support, First of all Emjay our advisor will contact you, she is the best person to give you advice. She will probably want to know what nicotine replacement products you have already tried. How long have you smoked and how many a day. Everybody is different and find it easy or hard to quit. Please dont give in as once you can set a plan out we can all help you. Sometimes its more of a habit of routine than actually habit of smoking. Whatever you decide keep trying you will get there. Meanwhile have a browse round the site on the different categories ,lots of hints and tips. Keep in touch. :)

Aup Russ, a big welcome to this lovely quit support site pal :) :)

Rite, you want to quit, but you cant eh ! You dont say which Nicotine Replacement Therapy products you have tried :o

Like our Jillygirl has said, we are all different, sooooo, different NRT's work for different people, it's just a matter of finding out which 1 suits you :)

To start with you have to really want to quit !! If you go at it half-hearted you wont quit :( Sit yourself down and have a think !! have a chat with yourself !! Write a quit plan out :) Get yourself prepared for when you get the cravings etc :)

Why do I want to quit ?

What good would it do me ?

How much money would I save ?

What do I do when I get a craving ?

When will I get the cravings ? Is there a certain time of the day ?

Where do the cravings hit hardest ? While your at work, While your driving, When your at home, When your at the pub, etc !!

You sound as though you've had a few practices at trying to quit, you know what they say dont you, Practice makes Perfect :) soooo, you think back at WHY you started smoking again, what triggered it off ?? Write those trigger points down, so then you can get yourself prepared for your next attempt :)

Rite I think I've rabbited on for long enough Russ :o So good luck to ya pal :) just a quicky, its been the hardest thing that I've had to do, but I tell you, its well well worth it pal :)

Hope to speak soon, Pete :)

Hi russ_heat, welcome to Quit Support :-)

You've certainly come to the right place for help and support to quit smoking :-)

Try and look at all your past attempts as a practise run for the real thing. Don't see them as a wasted effort, try and learn from them. Think about where it went wrong for you last time and what you can do differently this time.

You've been offered some great advice and support already.

Planning and preparation is key to success really so I would suggest that you start by reading through the following link;

healthunlocked.com/quitsupp...

Once you've read through that, have a think about when you would like to quit. Is it a couple of days away, or even a couple of weeks?

If you do plan to use NRT, make sure it is the right product for you, that you use it properly and for the full length of treatment time. Using NRT puts you at 5 times more likely to stop smoking.

If you would like to find out about your local stop smoking service, send me your postcode in a PM and I'll let you know where / who your nearest service is. They can provide you with your NRT for free or at the cost of a prescription. By accessing this kind of service then you are 4 times more likely to make it to at least 4 weeks of being smokefree.

Basically, the more help you take, the more likely you are to be successful.

Planning and preparation is the way forward and learning a lot about your smoking behaviour will help big time. You also need to think about changing your behaviour. This won't happen over night but it can be done.

Give us a shout and let us know what you think so far and we'll crack on with the next step.

Stay positive and we'll crack this together :-)
