40 days off of the Cancer sticks and still counting.

Well I'm managing to stay off of the cancer sticks and its a challenge to say the least but in all honesty, the benefits are now mounting up.I'm doing it 'One day at a time'not forever as that seems to long and to far away.I'm still waiting for news about my arterial leg bypass which may mean that I go into hospital near or over Christmas.I'm ok with that as I look forward to getting my rucsac on and to go back out on the fells again.

I have been to see the smoking cessation nurse again today and my co2 levels are as low as can be-Yipee and my lung capacity has risen to 80% from 50% five years ago-Yippee yey. That makes me feel soooooooooooo good.I'm getting so many benefits so early that I would be 'insane' to pick the cancer sticks up again. But like i have said-'One day at a time ,I can do this.

Thank you.

Hi Surrendertowin,

Reaching 40 days is brill :) thinking a day at a time is a goid way to go, I did that as well, like you say, it's better than thinking forever seemed impossible to me.

I hope your surgery goes well and you get back on the fells soon :)

Stay positive and happy then you'll win this battle :)

Hi Surrendertown, think it is the only way to go as well, forever is a long time! Good luck with your op, I used to love fell walking, that with all the other activities fell off over the years as I got wheezier and wheezier, looking forward to getting back to a decent capacity. Well done you. :)

Thank you.I have already set myself a target within the next 2 years and thats to walk the Glencoe way in Scotland and possibly the West Highland way.Two Years ago I walked St Cuthberts way,Melrose to Lindifarne,But I struggled with the pain in my calf muscles and had to stop every 50 yards or so.I finished the walk but could have cried many times with the pain and Yet I still defended the 'Cancer sticks'.I have been using a 'Salt pipe' on occasion and that stopped a lot of the wheezing in my chest.Got it from Amazon.I do think it has helped.(This is not a sales pitch.)

I have walked many Long distance paths and will not stop for the sake of Fags.My love for the Great outdoors is greater than that.I have been tromping around Britain since i was 13 and now I'm 38+vat (58) shhhh.I have at least another 12 years in me for doing what I love.

(I think I'm going to turn into one of those Anti smoking fanatics) Ha ha.

Wow that's amazing I've not done those distances, that must have been horrible with a bad leg, hopefully your op will set you free! Salt pipe? I'll have a look at that. Going to eat now! See ya later. :)
