My age not fitting with smoking in plane...But would have been strange experience :) I used to smoke in mall's, in office, in train, buss and school toilets :(

I smoked every where and all the time even between courses in a restaurant. In the toilet and I could not answer a phone without lighting up first. I smoked cigarettes, cigars and a pipe and I worked in a sawdust environment. Hard to believe now and sincerely wish I had never smoked because in reality I never did need to smoke at all in order to do anything. I stopped smoking when I was 60 and diagnosed COPD Emphysema and now I am 72 realize it was all too late to prevent this dreadful illness taking over my life.

Hi Hallentine, like they say hindsight is a wonderful thing. I ended up with having a lung removed so I fully understand how you feel. Take care.:) x

My husband with COPD and oxygen full time... says... I'm happy... I'm above ground still finding ways to enjoy living. He still plays 9 holes of golf, walks the river to fish, plays with his grandchildren. He has an amazing spirit for life. I'm so blessed to share life with him.

He says... "I won't let it control me. I'll just find ways to work around it." I hope this helps you. He works out at respiratory therapy 3x per week and is convinced that has been a saving grace in extending his enjoyment of life.

Indeed so Jillygirl but all they were interested in were profits. What really annoys me though is smoking was and is blamed for everything when in actual fact it was probably more our environment then without the useful tools we have today. Most of us lived in very dirty conditions. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Xx

Surprised I didn’t smoke in my sleep, lol.

When I had my first baby, I had a choice of smoking or non smoking rooms! 1985.

I had my child in 84 and smoking was allowed in the downstairs waiting room, had just been taken out of maternity that year.

I remember being in a cinema smoking as a young pup and also on an aeroplane...the segregation of the smoking and non-smoking sections still makes me chuckle to this day. I was thankful - even as a smoker, when the restaurant and pub bans came into effect.

I remember being grounded in Newark, NJ in the plane for 3 hours and you couldn't move with the no smoking sign on. All I could do to control myself. Thankful I'm controlling it 30 years later. :)

I remember smoking in a hospital, how wrong is that, most pubs had smoke rooms, the cinema was great towards the end of the film you could see the cloud of smoke descending, I used to go to the nearby shop and get my mothers cigs with a note of course, public transport was amazing !!! we certainly dont want to go back to those days

Yes Pete, when I had my first baby I was asked " do you want a cigarette or a cup of tea first?" I neednt tell you what I wanted first.

as a child I can remember when the smog used to be around , this was a mixture of coal fire smoke from houses and fog, plus just about everyone smoked its a wonder we are still here to tell the tale,

My dad used to be a chimney who thought the lawn was the ashtray. As soon as he stubbed one out and left, i used to run and pick it up and puff away, until one day he spotted me. Sadly he passed away last year at 69.

So when i had my first puff at 16, i felt totally into it(wish i didnt😔).

My 1st reaction is not postable..................

It's too late to cry over spilled milk. I count myself as one of the lucky ones, touch wood, cross fingers, whatever. My physical limitations are not smoking related.

I have, however, lost my husband aged 54. Sometimes I still can't believe it. (17 years ago now)

My 2nd love, ( talk about sod's law).

And more recently a friend and colleague. Aged 66.😪😪😪
