My darling Husband is free of the illness now

Gwendolyn profile image
21 Replies

My darling slipped away peacefully last Friday, he became very ill last Wednesday and although he had hoped to stay at home he agreed to go to the Hospice, it was the best decision as they made him comfortable and pain free , we were all there at the end and he chose to go when I sat on one side of him , his son on the other and the grandchildren were in the room .

He was so brave and never complained, I cannot think of life without him . I have donated his brain tissue and spinal cord for research into this terrible disease and take comfort from the thought that he may contribute to a cure being found so that others may not have to suffer as he did.

The support I have had from joining the PSP Association has helped enormously, I thank you all, God Bless.

So so sorry to hear your sad news Gwendolyn. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope you stay with us all here so we can still support you.

I an so glad Fiona stayed with us too. My Mum is gradually getting worse and I know the inevitable is going to happen at such stage. Your experiences and from others like Fiona have been invaluable to me and helped me cope so much better with PSP life.

I am so so sorry...big hug! x

Dear Gwendolyn

My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your husband. Luigi has now been dead four years come January and I still miss him terribly. Yesterday would have been our 46th Wedding anniversary, a very sad day indeed for me. My one consolation is in the fact that he is at peace now and suffers no longer. Life had lost it's meaning for him. We had planned so many things for our retirement but it wasn't to be.

My daughter recently after many difficulties had a little boy and once again I feel that life still holds some meaning for me.

I hope you too will soon find some inner peace in order help fill the gap.

Warm regards

Lina

Dear Gwendoline. Your story is so similar to when my Dad passed away last year. My Mum, my sister, myself were with him, but he waited til his grandchildren were there too. It was peaceful and he passed with great dignity as it sounds as though your husband did. It is very brave you have donated his brain tissue and spinal cord as you say this will help the PSP Association enormously. Well done. You have a loving family who will support you through this. There is nothing anyone can say to make your loss easier, but by all the replies I've read you have great support, which must be such comfort to you. Best wishes, Nicola T

Dear Gwendolyn

Really sorry to hear the sad news but how lovely that his family were there with him at the end. That must have been lovely for him.

I lost my husband in April and like your husband, he had had the best of care at a Neurological Care Centre/Hospice in Nottinghamshire and in his last hours I was even told 'bring your little dog' with you and put her on his bed. So, there she lay quietly for hours, as Richard slowly and peacefully slipped into the next world - with his hand still on her back.

Richard also donated his brain and spinal cord. I think it's a such admirable and unselfish thing to do.

Thinking of you all at this very sad time.

Love
