It is common for people with PSP to fall backwards, but the falls can be in any direction. You need to be refered to the physio and OT to see how you can decrease falls and how to manage freezing.
Mum's legs sometimes freeze too when she is trying to transfer from chair to commode and back. Sometimes rocking from side to side gently helps to free her up.
Hi Jill, Falls can go in any direction. Occupational and physical therapists can assist you to keep you safe. They will visit your home especially to see where grab bars, pole assists for getting into and out of bed may be beneficial for you. Mostly the walker helped Mom remain somewhat forward with locks and such to help transfer to chairs or to simply walk with more confidence. We also put ramps into the main entrance so there was not a step into the house. Good luck....Kathy
