When my Dad was first diagnosed..

..I was 18 and was in my first term at Sheffield Hallam University. We had thought something was wrong for a while but couldn't pin-point when he had changed. It took months and months of frustration, telling Dad he needed to go to the doctors, before a family friend had told him it might be beneficial.

In the December of 2008, the results came back but there was so much speculation around it because it's such a rare disease.

Sitting in the dining room around Christmas, I asked Mum the questions she was dreading to answer. Yes it's terminal- that's when I felt my whole world had come crashing down. Who's going to walk me down the aisle if Dad isn't alive? Why isn't there a cure? Why him? Why us?

Hannah...reading your blog brought tears to my eyes. I lost my dad (not to PSP) unexpectedly in February this year and I can feel your anguish and pain. He was there to walk me down the aisle etc. but we take so much for granted and I thought he would be around forever...enjoy each special day you have with your dad.

Maybe the blogs should come with a warning- have tissues to hand!

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

hi HANNAH

Your dad would want to see you married and settled but it may not be possible

Try to b thankful that he is still around - children can lose their parents at any age and there is no God -given right to your dad's living a long life -he has got this PSPand you would not want him to suffer if the time came when he had to go?

This may sound cruel but a good friend's husband died aged early 50s when his children were 11 and 12 - they have grown up to be super people (their dad and mum?s influence combined) and alll one can say is there but for hte grace fo God go i

i am not religious at al l by the wya- brought up CoofE but long lapsed

Friends saya they r praying 4 me but

it is practical help and love which is required not prayers!
