Has anyone in the US suffering from PSP, CBD or MSA been exposed to agent orange while serving their country ? Congress has passed a bill to include Parkinson like diseases on their presumptive list. This means those with PSP should eventually receive VA healthcare and disability. They are looking for funding, so it is not law yet. If you apply , when this goes through, you could receive back pay.
I am in Wisconsin . My husband has home based primary healthcare. It is wonderful.

A friend of an (American) friend was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. She was dx’d w Parkinsons. As my friend described what she was going through I would say to her “Sh@t...this sounds like PSP to me!” I’ve always tracked the agent orange issue since then. Thanks for the update 😊🏅🚁🗽⭐️
Yes, and last I knew Parkinsonism was still being considered after several years. This is great news that would make my husband very happy. He isn100%, so that’s not the issue. It’s the “ principle “ to him. Just requested Home Based Primary Care. That will be a process, I’m sure, like everything else. You’ve had a good experience? We are in New York.
Thank you so much. I’ll be call telhe Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs Rep.
Yes, our experience has been wonderful. Having the same care team and the ability to call etc is wonderful. They also do this blood work, flu shot etc. When I was concerned he May have a UTI, his nurse came out and took a urine sample. We also have a social worker, dietician, psychologist and OT on his team. They all come to our home when we need them. We are blessed to receive this care. I understand the request here is huge. After talking to a social worker, our acceptance went quickly.
Would you mind saying what your husbands 100% disability is for ?
There are still many steps until it becomes law. My point was that it is retroactive. Therefore, benefits are based on the day VA gets the application. A Veterans Service Organization is very helpful and will exspain it all and file the claim.
My husband, who passed on August 7, served three years as an infantry officer during the Vietnam period. . To his knowledge, he was not directly exposed to Agent Orange, but he guarded ammo warehouses and in training crawled all over Fort Ord, California, which is known to have harmful pesticides. While my husband was living, I researched disability and CBD, but the only two people I found who received benefits were veterans who were suffering from both CBD and post traumatic stress disorder. It just didn't seem worth pursuing at the time. He had home-based primary care and we thought it was wonderful.
Marilyn, I’m so sorry for all you’ve gone through. It’s great that your husband received care through VAs Home Based Primary Care. I feel it’s a wonderful program,
I believe you can still apply on your husbands behalf, but you do need proof that he was exposed to Agent Orange.
Thanks, Karyn. Can't prove the Agent Orange piece of this; at most, he had indirect exposure. The pesticide exposure is much easier to establish but the connections to Parkinsonisms (and CBD) are still being examined, I think. We got his medical records but noted that he was not examined, while on active duty, for any neurological complaints. I still think that longterm, there may be a connection. However, my husband passed August 7 and I guess I feel that it is time for me to move on...
Thanks Alice. With the help of a very knowledgeable attorney recommended by a Navy Organization, Dan's PSP has been recognized as service related. It has been a long and costly endeavor. We also hired a doctor to work to prove why Dan’s PSP was likely caused by exposure to Agent Orange. I hope this helps the bill pass and all Parkinsonism patients get benefits.
My guy was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, but was stationed in Italy and never saw action. As his PSP wasn't service-related, he wasn't eligible for VA coverage in the ordinary way, but was on appeal offered full support under the "catastrophic diagnosis" exception, which allowed the local VA to say it had the capacity to take him on anyway. We got wonderful support and care. I will always be deeply grateful for the way the help we received allowed me to care for my dear man at home.
