I haven't been posting much, as I'm been trying to squint my eyes at the realities of CBD/Parkinson's. . . . but now my husband is having more bladder problems. About every other month, he suddenly wakes up with the need to urinate like every other minute. With burning sensation. He has one again today (interestingly, after his symptoms were noticeably worse yesterday in several areas--fatigue, that weird voice, clumsiness).
The last time the doctor just started with Cipro, which made me very nervous, because of all the potential problems with the "flox" antiobiotics. Which antibiotics did your doctors use that were most helpful?

The last post of yours was on entering a clinical trial by UCSF. What was the outcome of that? Was he accepted. Did they think it was PSP or some other PRIME OF LIFE BRAIN DISEASE? How are you holding up?
Hi Lost, I’m sorry that this is happening. There are so many different antibiotics these days that it’s hard to keep track of all of them. I’m allergic to Penicillin so my options are more limited. I know that it’s important to stay hydrated. Is your husband getting enough water? I’ve also heard that cranberry juice is helpful for UTI’s. Frequent urination is common but the burning sensation is not. Is he seeing a GP or a Urologist?
Well, they had him go in after the telemedicine visit, so they could culture the urine. They put him on a sulfa antibiotic, but it doesn't seem to be helping--he just has to go almost constantly when these hit.
About the UCSF trial, the lead doctor didn't think it was definitely CBD--instead, we were supposed to see her in the clinic, but then everything is on hold as we lay low to avoid the coronavirus. So we don't know anything. It's great news that it isn't CBD for sure. But his decline seems awfully fast for Parkinson's. He's lost so much use of his bad hand just in the last few months.
Everything is trial an error in treating the symptoms of whatever ailment he has. We were lucky that dopamine drugs helped with stiffness. He has no warning when he needs to urinate but as far as I know there is no burning sensation. I give him as much privacy as possible and I often wonder what all of his groaning is about. I shout through the door asking if he needs any assistance but he always replies NO. So for now we’re going through this phase. I hope you can get this resolved because it sounds painful and no fun at all. Please keep us informed of what’s happening. I wish you all the best!
My mum went through a spell of recurrent UTIs, got it sorted by a low dose antibiotic for 3 months. After that, I think she only had two infections over the next 3 years.
To identify a UTI, keep an eyeout for the following symptoms: A burning feeling when you urinate. A frequent or intense urge to urinate, even though little comes out when you do. Pain or pressure in your back or lower abdomen. Cloudy, dark, bloody, or strange-smelling urine. Feeling tired or shaky. Fever or chills (a sign the infection may have reached your kidneys)
1. UTIs are infections caused by bacteria in the bladder.
2. The cerebral cortex interprets messages as full or empty bladder. This becomes a nerve function and as the neurodegenerative disease gets worse so does the signaling and therefore bladder control. And aging is an issue as well.
3. For fast control of a possible UTI I use the "test strips" Combur-10-Test.
In a sterilized container the first morning urine is collected, neglecting the beginning and the end. One or two strips are inserted and compared with the references.
Note.- Sometimes, in ages over 65 years, the case of a UTI can NOT have fever as a symptom but the patient manifests discomfort, restlessness and even disorientation. Therefore it is advisable to regularly monitor the smell and color of the urine, applying a Combur-10-test strip control at the slightest suspicion. It is critical that the infection does not reach the kidneys. In case of suspicion go to the physician as soon as possible. Testing is important to get the right antibiotic.
Can’t add any knowledge unfortunately, as G had continual feelings of needing to urinate without any infection, or so the blood tests seemed to indicate....
No travel for sure! It would be great to be able to plan something, but life has to remain in limbo, it seems. I think of you often and wonder how hubby is faring. Sending a big hug to you both and your beautiful kids 😊❤️
