Cheers!

I thought I would share a moment that I had with mom this weekend at the lake house. We sat and I encouraged conversation — otherwise we would sit quietly. So, I played a game with her ...

I asked her what her most favorite memory was as a child .. it’s amazing how much I learn when I ask questions. She sat for a moment, I could see her thinking and she says with a smile, “My Dad bought me a white fur coat” (they lived a very simple life), and she wore it to school (1st grade) ... all the kids wanted to touch it, and she said, “ I felt like a movie star!"

Mom speaks very soft, and it took time for her to tell this story, but ... it brought great expression and the smile on her face was priceless!!!

(As you can see her fingers (right hand) she has started to hold her thumb like that a lot.

Thank you, Kim, not only for the story but for the photo of the physical progression.

My son and I did a great deal of sharing, but looking back I realize more about him than about me. So, I think that is good that you are learning more about your mom.

About the last two weeks of my son's life I asked him who his favorite love was. He had never married, but just before getting symptoms he had said he was interested in getting married. Most of his adult life he was afraid that marriage would sabotage his free-lance bass playing. He was highly formally educated and was afraid that if he got married pressure would be put on him to leave his bass playing (night and weekend work). My son did tell me his favorite love. I was a bit surprised, and grateful I had asked.

When you lose a loved one to death many questions come up after, but they are not around to answer.

Sending you a hug.
