Larry’s birthday today. He’s 71. I was 71 last Friday.

My care giving started in March of 2015. We both had a cold or something and it hit us hard beginning of that March. Put me in bed for three days and him for two weeks. Before this illness he was able to take care of himself more or less. After I had to assist. Larry never fully recovered. My duties increased from then on. Am now starting my fifth year of doing this. He’s still in pretty good shape. The big step down this past year was my having to start to feed him. He can still do solid food but has a hard time getting it to his mouth.

Happy Birthday Jeff - despite the stresses.

I always felt the awful tug between resentment at the caregiver stress role/confinement etc, the grief for his loss of function and the gratirude that he was still alive, was just a dizzying range of emotions to undergo every day!

I feel for you 💐

Only the people here and other care givers know just what is involved.

Well said, Anne. Every day, pulled in different directions. And then I think, "how hard this must be him, if I feel this way and I am not the afflicted one."

Happy Birthday for yesterday (12.35pm) missed the actual day by half an hour. Sounds like life is getting tougher but it's surprising what resources you have in reserve ( you definitely need them) love to both of you

Jeff,

Happy Birthdays!

If there is any silver lining to this disease is that it takes away abilities over time, so that each month you take on a new level of care. I dont think I could have handled the level of care toward the end of my wife’s life. It is physically, emotionally, and mentally taxing. Only another caregiver could really understand this.

I also found that when my wife was unable to feed herself, it was a major impact to her mentally. It was when she started giving up.

Larry is blessed to have you as his caregiver.

Take care,

Bobby

Belated birthday greetings to you both. Like you Jeff, we are in our fifth year and recently I have started to feed W. He was having same problem of getting the food up to his mouth and also getting it on to the spoon in the first place. W is eating solid food albeit soft, ie lots of fish and chicken dishes. It's a very sad situation. Sending you love and hugs. Nanny857xx
