PSP - Alternative medicine in Homepathy

My brother aged 74 is diagnosed as suffering from PSP. At present, as I understand there

is no cure for PSP in Allopathy. I am thinking of Alternative medicine in Homeopathy for PSP. Please let me know whether any body tried Homeopathy for PSP and the result.

We did not have experience with homeopathy, but I looked in the search window and saw several post strings by member sidharth_roy on the subject, about 4 years ago....

Hello

I am not aware of anyone trying homeopathy for PSP. However homeopathy has systematically shown itself not to be effective for any treatment in any formal research trial that I have been able to find.

It would certainly not make it onto my list of alternative treatments to try.

Thank you.

Hi xyz31

Sorry, my earlier reply was a little rushed...

If we look at the problem of what is happening with PSP then we might have some clues as to possible ways of slowing the disease. A gene (or three) have 'broken' and too much tau protein is being made and it's forming a plaque over the brain and smothering it.

So any treatment must at least reduce the plaque formation. Nothing in the food supplement world seems to be effective and many have been tried including CQ10 and Ethylene Blue. Both looked promising in initial trials. However when the trials were scaled up neither made a difference.

If you want to try an alternative or complimentary medicine you might find it helpful to look at Alzheimer's disease online. A lot more research has been done on this illness and it is a cousin of PSP.

Alternative medicine is perhaps more effective at ameliorating some of the symptoms, such as anxiety, low mood, muscle stiffness and loss of appetite.

Are you in the US? There are trials for various promising medications which seem to slow the plaque formation.

If you are in the UK there are trials here too. Contact the PSP Association or your neurologist, both are able to refer you on to them.

Good luck!

Warmly

Kevin

Thank you. I am in India

Waving to you in India. :)

Sorry I don't know what drug trials are going on there and how to access them.

Maybe worth asking your neurologist?

Wishing you the best.

I was doing some reading today about alternative treatments. I came across a study for Homeopathy and Dementia.

The results were that it brought about no measurable change.
