firstly thanks to you all for your support they are sending Geoff home tomorrow with full palliative care he has been refusing the puree food and wont[ drink ] the thickened liquid the doctor said if I don't get him to feed his organs will start to break down he has other medical issues which he didn't go into I know it will be hard work but the smile on his face when I told him was all I needed I love my family but I loved Geoff first he is extra special as you can see I'm bias were hes concerned I will do my best to get him eating again our children are due to go on holiday and they all deserve a break so I will bully Geoff to feed I think weve had a really bad two weeks trying to be listened to I'm glad I had an advocate when you are at your lowest its warming to read all your imput let me tell you a little about Geoff he was awarded the military medal in aden he got a commendation for going to the aid of a policemen who was being stabbed he also when driving a bus realised a runaway double decker was about to hit is vehicle he threw himself over the front seat passenger to save her from injury it was nothing to do with her being a busty 17 year old [he said ] but most of all he can also be a grumpy git this is just to give you a small insight of who you have all been trying to help thank you thank you from the wrinkly

Geoff sounds wonderful. I liked hearing about him. I also chuckled with your humor.....I'm sure the young chesty lass had nothing to do with his heroism.
It's kind of you to tell us (me) about him. So often we have little time but to write and share on the illness, and the "person" gets lost.

When was your Geoff in Aden? I ask because my husband was there too. He hated every minute of it! He was injured when a hand grenade was thrown at him. So he had to have an operation to remove shrapnel from his legs and back. He was based in Steamer Point.
Talk about a small world? I am so glad you mentioned Aden. G always complained that everyone had forgotten it. Your Geoff was a brave man. So was mine but he never thought so. He volunteered to bury the bodies of people killed there. Mind you he did get paid for it! His day job was more mundane. I think it really got to him when he arrived back home though.

Geoff was in aden in the 60s he also was at steamer point and crater city other parts too we also call it the forgotten war because it was classed as a conflict I often write about it because a lot of people died there they are rarely mentioned his citation said his actions saved the lives of an officer and 14 men so I am very proud of him I could talk a lot about the unfairness because that group weren't even given a pension he never talks about aden and only wears his medals on rememberance day hes gone every year since he came out of the army best wishes doreen
Doreen my husband was in the RAF. His takes really made me think how many had died there. He also went into Radfan which was bad apparently. I know he couldn't wait to get home. This was before we were married so thankfully I didn't have to go there.
You are right to be proud of Geoff. I agree it's disgraceful none of them received a pension. Too late for them now! They were all treated very badly. Take care of your Geoff.

Doreen when was Geoff there? What years I mean. I take it you were not there? I would have got on the next plane home I think. There again I was much quieter then and probably would have put up with it. Although my Mother wouldn't have allowed me to marry him then. I was too young to get married when we did! 😁 I still have the book he got to "introduce" him to Aden!

we were not allowed to go to aden we had to stay in married quarters in Colchester Geoff was there from before 1960 to 1962 he doesn't talk a lot about it but he went through some terrible times I cant remember all the names of the places he was in in aden but I do remember watching the news xmas day our daughter was 2 and there he was in crater city with bombs going off he was also injured but not seriously Geoff and I met and married in 6 months its our 56th anniversary in july I would have followed him anywhere we kept a lot of his paper work from aden including the calendar he had crossing the days off to when he was coming home he is home on palliative care as they cant clear the pneumonia I sleep in the chair beside his bed at the moment as I cant bear to leave him they have offered marie curie nurses my family son daughterinlaw and daughter and son inlaw have been and still are helping every step of the way we are blessed to have them sorry ive gone on a bit I can talk for England Geoff always said id win gold in the Olympics for talking best wishes doreen
Doreen I would give you a run for your money when it comes to talking! 😀. I am glad you didn't live in Aden as it was an awful place then or so I was told by Garry.
I am sorry that there is no help for your husband other than Palliative Care. It is very hard to let them go.
I hope you have family with you at least some of the time?

my family are brilliant in fact if possible too caring I have been offered marie curie nurses I will know if and when I will need them at the moment I just want to be with Geoff on my own at night I have a recliner and he goes to sleep holding my hand the days always seem busy and its precious moments that keep me going he is very content being at home doreen
Doreen I am so glad you are both happy. Bless him he probably doesn't care about anything as long as he has you holding his hand as he goes to sleep. Love and hugs to both of you. By the way if you want some time alone just politely ask your family to let you spend some time together. Even if it's only 10-15 minutes?

Glad some people know about Aden my husband was also in Aden , 62 to 64 , we were there with our 2 eldest girls.lived in Creater and later at little Aden, longest 2 years of my life....Brenda xx
Brenda my husband was there from 1964 to 1966. Just in time for all hell to let loose at the end of 1964. That's when he was injured. I still have part of the hand grenade which they removed from his legs. He was really lucky. He was going into Little Aden when he was injured.
Good to know your husband was there too. A friend of mine was there around the time you were.

Once home I'm sure he will be much more happier and settled. He may then wish to have some food and fluids.
Enjoy having him home even though it will be hard going for you.
So glad that you got that smile. It must have been magic for you. I know it will be a really hard time for you both but that smile will make it all worth while. Congratulations on getting everything in place so you can get Geoff home. He sounds an amazing fellow and you sound an amazing lady. He is so lucky to have you.

Don't know about the Mango juice but I gave my husband various flavoured Smoothies. It was so much thicker than anything else. He hated the thickener.

Thank you Marie I will get some today although we have been advised it has to be very thick and not run off the spoon so maybe we will have to add a bit of thickener.

You can get a special cup which restricts the amount he can have. That stops the coughing and choking. It also helps to ensure he gets enough so is hydrated. I just posted about it recently. So there should be a seperate post on it.

I do not as it considerably thicker than any other juices and Nigel hates the thickener, but one could if necessary I guess. Ali B xx
