Chair dancing..

Most of the time I ask for advice on here or just have a moan but today (inspired by Kevin's uplifting post) I want to tell you that I had a good visit with my Dad.

I noticed the activity in the lounge today was 'chair dancing' & as my dad had been complaining that he's been sat in his room for six months (3 months but it probably feels like 6 to him) I reminded him that there were daily activities to do if he so wished. So I didn't hang about, I just got him down to the lounge & it was the best 45 minutes he's had in a while. We 'danced' to Nat King Cole 'Love', Ella Fitzgerald & more. It was amazing. We ended with the Can Can believe it or not...seated throughout.

I'm hoping he'll go down tomorrow for the singing!

Superb! Good for you.

Your post has cheered me immensely.

Wonderful. :)

The care work doesn't even stop when our loved ones are in a Home.

Chris went to a weekly day session at the local hospice and enjoyed the various activities. I have warm memories of picking him up the last time he went and they had had him on his feet " dancing " rock and roll and "flirting" with the young helpers. It did him so much good. He went rapidly down hill so those memories are especially precious.

Those who do this work so cheerfully are the real heroes !!!

Brilliant!! What a lovely memory you’ve made! I’m all for most of the activities if the patient has the strength, seeing those smiles is so very worth it x

I have crept into a local weekly Alzheimers group called Singing for the Brain. Although we don't strictly qualify we have been going for about 4 years now and it has been great . there is something about music which can remind people of days gone by and bring them out of their shell.

Valerie was singing along when we first went and even now that she can no longer speak and is apathetic it sometimes brings a smile to her face.

Singing and music is very therapeutic and I'd recommend it to everyone.

Ah how lovely indeed. Hope it now inspires your Dad to venture down to the activities.

A beautiful memory made for you both.
