We were finally able to lay Rog to rest on Monday. He was piped in by Jimmy the piper!Delma and i had done all his flowers on Saturday with the help of a couple of glasses of wine! We wanted everything very personal so put some silk flowers from our neices wedding, roses from flowers sent from Aus and flowering ivy picked from up the lane. The order of service was full of his pictures, from footballing days, teenage years and later years - no sickness. His four best pals carried him in.
We were determined that this vile illness should not have the privilege of this day, it has ruled our life for too long. Delma recorded a poem which was played, we had welcomed people to send their memories so rels from Canada and Aus sent very personal and lovely thoughts. He went out to Brown Sugar from the Stones, the first time he saw them was in 1968 , numerous times after, I think we have financed Mick Jaggers lifestyle on our own!
There was a box for Harry so people could write their memories of Rog , so he could read about what his grandad got up to when he was younger! The celebrant was amazing, we went to school together, and the undertaker even came to pick us up from the wake! Ninety people came back, the golf club filled with laughter and 'do you remember'.
I am still gripped by this physical pain which is grief, my head won't work and the exhaustion is unbelievable. However the best thing is when Rog was ill i could not remember him well, now I can only see him as a fit well man, even see the twinkle in his eye! I can hear his voice again and his laughter. I also cannot remember anything of my daily struggles with the physical caring of him.
Speak soon behave yourselves, give your boys and girls an extra hug tonight, i will be back when i am a bit mended as I still have a passion for people struģgling with the system and this illness . Love and thank you to you all,

That sounds like such a great send off, a lot of thought and work went into that. I like the idea of the memory box for the youngsters to read now or a few years time, very clever.
You look after yourself now, take some time to relax as much as you can.
Hi Julie, I am glad everything went well and it was very much personalised by yourselves. This will give you great comfort in the dark days ahead. Well done for being able to remember Rog as the well man, before PSP came into your lives. It took me some months to get there far.
Take care of yourself now,it is a long road, just recovering from all the caring. I am still exhausted now, a year down the road.
Julie brought tears to my eyes so happy Rog had the send off he deserved. Sounds amazing, keep in touch when you feel stronger, you are all amazing people on this site, we have all helped each other, I think we would not of been able to cope without each other. Oh my goodness. What a beautiful, organized, thoughtful to detail service. I suppose i should do the planning now as i wont have the thought process when the time comes and will forever feel guilt for missing something important due to ovetwhelming exhaustion. `Well what a lovely send out ! I am sure Rog is dancing to Brown Sugar as we speak. You know, I think I once read that there was someone fitting Rog's description indeed funding Micks lifestyle! hahah
Darling I do hope your're getting on ok I know that it is hard but just by the description of your send off to Rog, I know you will make the best of it. Remember we are always hear for you and so is the Lord. Now it's time for you to take care of yourself. Praying that you will go into this new journey ready to make new and happy memories.

What a lovely send off you put together for Rog and your family. And what a great job you have done caring for him. Know that you have done all you could and done it well. Now take care of yourself. You deserve it.

Dear Julie, That sounds like a fabulous farewell to Rog and I bet it is just the kind of goodbye he would have wanted after all of the suffering. I'm so please that you are remembering the Rog, pre PSP and not the man who had been robbed of his last years by this horrible disease. It seems you are surrounded by loving family and friends, I'm sure they will be a great support for you as you start on this new journey. Take good care of yourself and give yourself space to grieve.
