Back ache

I have had back ache for a week plus. Been for a massage which didn't seem to help. Is it likely it's PSP-related?

Hi NickSE5

I'm sorry I can't answer your question in the way you might wish.

Folk with PSP do get stiff and achy and that can be PSP. My wife used to get painful neck and shoulders. For some reason that has stopped.

Physio and gentle exercise is thought to preserve function too.

You might like to think about physio and massage. Whatever the cause those might help.

Best to you

Kevin

My guy had weakness in his right leg, which threw his posture off and translated into backache. Gentle stretching exercises helped; he would lie on the floor (or bed) and draw one knee at a time up to his chest, clasping with his hands to hold his leg and pull it close, maintaining gentle pressure only. He would stretch both legs for balance. A heating pad on his back helped too.

I've some osteoarthritis on.my right side maybe that's the problem. I tend to forget about it as my PSP is more disabling.

yes. Unfortunately having PSP doesn't make a person immune from lesser ailments. There ought to be a law.

As hubby's symptoms have progressed, including loss of energy, he has naturally exercised less. I think this has led to "normal" muscle weakness particularly in the back. We have started physio this year, some in the clinic, some at home, and a gentle aquacize class, along with continuing walking (not too far & pretty slow, with a walker.)

Overall, his backaches have decreased so I'm convinced keeping up the exercise is critical :-)

That's very helpful.

How are your PSA numbers ~ don't forget to take care of your other stuff🙂❄️Urinary? Bladder? Infections can make a back ache, too.

What are PSA numbers? As a carer I should know but I don't!

I've not heard of PSA numbers either.

I think it is something to do with prostate cancer.
