Advances in the treatment for Alzheimer's

Hi folks

I came across this today. It's a development in the treatment of Alzheimer's. There are crossovers between PSP and Alzheimer's such as neurofibular tangles and protein plaques on the brain.

Advances are being made which is great.

Thank you Kevin-1.

The jump from experimentation in mice to humans can take a long time although the existing experience with diabetes patients can accelerate it.

Kevin , when we were at Mayo Clinic we met with a doctor in his 70’s who has worked and written a book on other Parkinsonism. ( lewey body diseases)

He said they have studied what they believed to be the primary culprit in Alzheimer’s for years, found a way to limit it in the brain and still have not seen any significant change in patients . Now they are thinking that the tau protein ( although less and seemingly insignificant ) is playing a role in Alzheimer’s. He felt this could be great news for PSP. There is so much work and money for Alzheimer’s research that they may be the one to help . Wouldn’t that be great ,!

Hi Karyn

Great news - there seem to be a lot of advances now.

The levels of 'dementia' in the Western World with longer lifespans, is becommind quite critical. There was an EU conference for senior politicians last year the level of concern is now so high.

I am sure that I read that PSP patients were being used for testing because it is only the tau protein that affects them whereas other neuro conditions have more than one protein. Also they get quicker results as PSP is more aggressive. I hope they are successful as it can only benefit all neurological conditions.

Many to you and the missus. Sent a woman named Zoe Bergeron to the community and told her to look you up. She is a friend from my hometown who meets the criteria. Happy New Year and I will get back involved once work and marriage are arranged. Take care and be safe my bro.

Interesting ! I heard a while back they were going to do a trial on Exenatide which is a drug for diabetes, I think in Lilles . My hubby is type 2 diabetic but since he has PSP he has lost 15kg and the doctor has reduced his different tablets from 4 a day to one a day, in the light of this research could it be a good thing or a bad one ?!! (food for thought !)

I hope this new year brings you some happiness and we find a way for better health for all !
