Sounds very familiar, hope you changed before you started cleaning up.

What a crappy end to what sounds like a nice afternoon out.

I hope you recover quickly.

That must make care difficult to say the least.

I have stopped banging Liz's back when she chokes. She says it does not help.

Does it help for you folks?

That's interesting Kevin I always pat dads back when he coughs and sputters! Perhaps it's not a good thing....? X

I don't know.

I think it triggers some sort of reflex.

Liz says it doesn't help.

I'm going to ask her if I can start doing it again to see if it does help.

There's so much in this illness I don't understand!

Hugs

Kevin

Quoting VronB

"I was told to get john to blow his nose when he starts spluttering and but seems to help."

Well, I don't know... but it does!

Somehow it clears her choking which is centred on the epiglottis area. She can't cough it clear anymore.

Beats me, but four or five times today it worked a treat.

I'm happy and a little non-plussed.

Chuckling.

I know what you mean!

I am going to try it again if Liz permits.

Sometimes she says one thing and means another.

She chokes a lot these days.

Is that the food ? Do you chop it or puree it ? I just chop but I have bought a ricer [ as recommended by nanaB ] ready for the puree stage !

Even thickened drinks can get caught in her throat. Liz is still managing normal food if I make it soft.

She still copes with bread which we bake almost daily. That will be a hard one for her to give up.

Yes - I keep the pieces of food small. We do a lot of pasta and rice dishes. Also potato hashes of many different kinds, or mashed potato with sauces mixed in. So its just salads that need to be made small and finger style eating.

I have just bought a 'nutri bullet'. Its not arrived yet. I plan to introduce fruit and vegetable smoothies into our diet. They can have rice, bulgur wheat or oats (both pureed) in them too.

It will be unbearably healthy, but it means we can quietly slip across to liquid foods without a big heart rending jump.

Hopefully it will deal with the excessive amount leaf veg. we have grown this year.

As you might guess - the kitchen is my chillout space!

Oh, I wish we lived near and you could cook for me !!

Yesterday our daughter came for dinner and I cooked a meal, just cut Chris' up small. Maybe I've been too cautious. He can still cope with drinks.

I don't give him salads though.

Eating out was such a shared pleasure for us. A big loss.

Yes, eating out and just sitting together was big for us too.

So much is taken away with PSP isn't it?

I'm not a great cook... But I am a man cook - and so I big it up on the names.

Cheese hash is called 'crushed and buttered potatoes with fine cheddar, caramelised onions and a hint of smoked garlic.'

;)

Chuckles.

Oh, allotmentatist

This is PSP and life happening.

I'm so sorry...

We should make a pack of PSP cards and play snap!

My experience is that PSP conspires with life's little tragedies to turn them into a full on trauma.

I should keep a book on this. So often something goes wrong and I know it will get compounded that day.

Thanks for sharing.

Would it be wrong to say I am glad I am not the only one?

Wishing you a better day.

Warmly

Kevin

Oh deary me what a calamity sounds like a sketch from a comedy show but I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time. Prior to this wicked disease I bet you would never be doing such intimate things for your husband, it's amazing how you just get on with it despite the injury. Just after Christmas I had a really bad tummy bug and was having to prep food and feed Ben whilst throwing up. I say prep, it was wheetabix or soup at every meal for 10 days poor chap. Have a great holiday, where are you going?
