Catheter

Not posted for a while. Hubbys eyesight so bad cannot see to p in the toilet. Feel so guilty, gave him an ultimatum - sit down to p or get a catheter. Poor love he is trying so hard not to miss the toilet. How easy is it to put in a catheter?

My husband sits down but why not use a urine bottle if he is resistant.

For my husband I also often use a convene when we go out. It saves the worry about getting to loo in time.

Tried bottle too did not like that any more than sitting down. I have bad health and feeling exhausted. He had bowel overflow for 3 days and also has chest infection

Oh ! What a nightmare it is.

I can't bear all the incontinence issues - but I have to !!!

Has he got district nurse coming in and carers? If not why not? You sound worn out.

think that you should persist with this I have used a bottle for about a year now is not hard to do and I use any old bottle 2 litre plastic bottle cut down is fine and it helps in the night when I am too tired to go to the loo

If his prostate isn't in the way you might be able to use a straight catheter that you don't leave in, but use to drain the bladder at need. My guy couldn't use it, or the installed catheter, which he pulled out, cut with scissors and generally harmed himself over. We have settled on layers of depends, and manage. It does not sound like your husband is there yet.

I'll never understand why there are no toilet fixtures designed for standing men. At the best of times they splash all over creation!

Can he maintain his balance at the toilet?

B peed all over the place then I devised an implement that helped to direct the flow.

I got a large oil funnel...bout 18 inches long the one end held his whohaw the other end went deep into the toilet.....It really helped him to stop peeing all over while he stood there....which meant he could still stand ....if your man is n a wheel chair, it may still work ...you might try it! We did eventually go to the catheter but last thing we wanted to do...and by that time he could not remember how to urinate......so....we needed something......

What a great idea! My guy also refuses to sit or use a urinal. Have to give this a try.

The oil funnel is brilliant. My guy doesn't need it yet, but I'll keep it in reserve.
