Hi Esra, my husband either has his mouth wide open and drooping or teeth clenched tight. If I put something in his open mouth, it shuts quickly reminding me of a crocodile snapping at prey. It even makes the same hollow chomping sound. I have to be very quick to remove the spoon before he bites it. If I talk to him and say it's food, it does register after a while and he starts to close his moth slowly. He has managed to break several electric toothbrushes, 3 ordinary toothbrushes and 3 tubes from his suction machine even though I try not to go beyond his teeth. I don't know if this is the same as your mom's gnashing but other than talking to C, I haven't managed to solve the problem. Oh, and a couple of years ago, he managed to bite the dentist!

My mother had that problem as well I tried using mouthguards all different sizes and it didn't work. what worked for her was placing a washcloth in her mouth (flat) it helped her not bite the inside of her cheeks or her tongue Plus it helped with collecting the saliva that would accumulate. I also started to use the tip of her suction catheter I would place it towards the back of her mouth in between her molars this would allow me to brush her teeth without her bitting down
I think this may be a common trait. I really have a hard time brushing my wife's teeth as she bites down on the brush. She managed to chip her front tooth due to biting down on the yaunker on her suction machine. I now use the NT yaunker, which is a soft, flexible hose that us normally used to suction through the nose.
