My dad is on the last stages of having psp. Has it is rare we are unsure how long this stage lasts as it's heartbreaking to see him deteriorate. He has had the illness for ten years now and there is only a couple of people suffering from this illness where we live any advice would be most helpful xx

I'm so sorry about your dad. Ten years is a long time. As with any illness, no one can tell when the exact time will come unless machines are involved. If your dad has a chest infection/ pneumonia he may not recover but if he is just slowly deteriorating, only the doctors may be able to tell you. As we don't know when it's time to say goodbye, spend as much time as you can with him and tell him how much you love him. I hope the end, when it comes, is peaceful.

Thank you so much we had a Xmas party today just me and him I had a glass of wine dad had some cider peg fed. Aldo his mouth are was done with cider lol. He hummed at the Xmas song playing. precious memories xx

Love him; talk to him; talk to each other. In your conversations remember the good the bad the ugly , but do it all with a joyful recollection. Take care of yourself; comfort each other; be prepared, as I am sure you are....

Hello - I am sorry to hear about your Dad, my Mum is just heading into her 10th year too. It is utterly heartbreaking and has just gone on for so long. There is just no way of telling unfortunately of 'how long', I have spent many years jumping every time the phone rings, but still holding on! Mum is in a very poor condition now, but still with us. The worry itself is exhausting. Wishing you much love this Christmas xx

Hi my mum has been in hospital for nearly 2 years in palliative care! I know exactly how you feel every time the phone goes, it's hell on earth watching this.

I wish my mum would close her wee eyes and be at peace.

It's very hard to think about Christmas, but hope you try and have a nice one X X

Yes it is very exhausting he's not good today very sleepy but he has been awake all night lets hope he can spend one more Xmas with his grandkids
