My mum has bravely fought PSP for 6 years , and has been in Long term hospital care for the last 18months. Mum has now lost her ability to swallow and we are at the end of life. I just hope and pray my mum will not linger and suffer anymore. This is an evil horrible disease, to which my mum needs a swift release . Thanks for reading x

curlyotpsd. I FEAR I'M STARTING THAT TIME IN MY PSP. I'V HAD IT FOR AT LEAST 7 YEARS BUT DIDN'T GET PROPER DIAGNOSIS UNTIL JULY 2014. NOT SEEING MY NEW NEUROLOGIST UNTIL APRIL 15- 2015. I WILL SO MY BEST TO STAY POSITIVE. MY CG'S ARE VERY HELPFUL SO I GET ALL THE HELP I NEED, WILL PRAY THAT SHE GOES PEACEFULLY. IF YOU ARE A CRISTIAN PLEASE HAVE YOUR PASTOR OR PRIEST GIVE HER HER LAST RITES,MOST IMPORTANT SURE HER FAMILY & FRIENDS VISIT HER SO THEY WILL GIVE HER THEIR LOVE AND WILL NEVER BE SORRY THEY DIDN'T PAY THEIR LAST RESPECT, TO LOSE SOMEONE THAT YOU LOVE IS HARD TO TAKE. HOPE I HELPED EASE YOUR PAIN. GENA

Just read your post so sorry for you, it seems a bit similar to my sister (81) she has had it for 4/5 years been on total purreed diet now and for about 3/4 weeks her swallow has got worse and food is just running out her mouth, then today nursing home called to say she is quite breathless was put on antibiotics but they could not get her to swallow anything today even the medication, it may sound bad but I hope she has finally reached the last stage and will get a peacefully end. Take care thinking of you.

Praying for you as it is so very difficult! Due to an accident a few years ago that broke a vertebrate in my mom's neck, she had a stomach tube inserted. This has made her linger on long past her losing her ability to swallow. It is so sad and yet they do not recommend stopping feedings until she is no longer to tolerate them. I am not for assisted suicide and believe our Sovereign God has a plan for our family! But it is still so very difficult to watch her dwindle away so slowly! My heart goes out to you in these last days as I know ours will be coming along the way. Blessings to you!

Having seen my mother go through 8 years of PSP, I can understand your helplessness. She passed away last month and left a vacuum in our lives. Just love her and make her as comfortable as you can.

Thinking of you,

Rita

Sorry to hear that Curlytops, my sister Rose lost her ability to swallow also, but fortunately after just being on pureed diet for about 3/4 weeks she lost her battle on Saturday 4th. April we got her the last rites and I was at her side with other family, it felt like a great weight had been lifted from my shoulders and also that Rose is out of her suffering now.Hang on in hold her hand talk to her play soft music that she liked, and I will pray for you both.God Bless.
