I take 25200 i.u. cranberry pills with cranberry juice. Works for me.

I was drinking some cranberry juice for prophylaxis, but switched to freshly prepared pomegranate juice after reading somewhere that it is equally efficient if not better.

Hi PJD. You don't need UTIs as often as this...if at all! I've had an indwelling catheter now for around 31/2 years and not had an infection yet. (touch wood)! In that time I use a FlipFlo termination as I'm not happy being connected to a bag. I find this system very manageable.

For me, there are 3 important things to keep all working well. Empty bladder regularly, Drink plenty ( I'm happy with about 2 pints a day; and a simple hygiene practice. This last needn't be so all consuming as sometimes advised but simply keeping the genital area clean and even shaved; and cleaning the tube itself, all the way back a half inch or so into the penis. I do this morning and night.

Beyond this, I can't think of anything else to help and trust whatever is in a higher place than I to keep any UTI away! Hope this helps in some way. Hope you get your problem sorted soon.

I did a quick search on cranberry vs Pomegranate juices. Seems they are comparable for UTIs according to several sites. One thing to be careful of, read the ingredients. Make sure the first and main ingredient is the juice you are looking for. Manufacturers will include other juices and even added sugar. Know what you are drinking.

thanks - I do read the labels

Best to you

Good for you. It amazes me that companies can get away with using juice on a label such as cranberry juice when the main ingredient is apple juice with added sugar and the amount of cranberry juice is minimal.

Similar to justfor, I drink pomegranate juice. It is difficult (and expensive) to find freshly squeezed where I live so I drink stuff that is 100% pom juice from concentrate and no other ingredients.

Given that pom and cran are equal, why would one go with pom? I think it is a lot more expensive, at lest where I live.

I recommend consulting a urologist to see if you have any post void residual. If you do and it is significant, this could be the reason for the UTIs.

Trader Joe's has an all natural cranberry juice. It is not a sugary "cocktail" like the big brand. They also have a blueberry which can also help.
