All prostate cancer does not behave the same. This can make deciding on a treatment plan difficult. Prostate cancer aggressiveness tests observe the biopsy cancer tissue on a molecular level to answer the patient’s most pressing questions like: How aggressive is my disease? Is my disease going to spread? Will I die from my disease? These tests measure how fast or slow the cancer is growing to help provide answers to these questions. This information can help men and their doctors feel more confident in their treatment decisions.

About 1 in 6 men with prostate cancer inherited a genetic mutation that may have caused cancer. Men with a history of cancer in their family, including breast, ovarian, prostate, or other cancers should consider hereditary cancer genetic testing. The information received from these tests can impact immediate prostate cancer treatment decisions. Genetic testing can also help family members know if they should be tested or take preventive measures to avoid developing cancer. I had contradictory results (intermediate risk and high risk) n two different genetic tests. Gleason 3+4, 40% two core pointed me in the direction of definitive treatment, after two years AS. I had been hoping for focal treatment. The complication was no visible lesion in 2 MRI’s. The genetic tests pushed me in the direction of whole gland SBRT.
