I had prostate cancer 4 yrs. age, had it remover...PSA 0.01, all was good.

began having nite sweats...had to change my tee shirt 2-3 times a nite...

did a chest xray and they found a mass in my lung, 4th stage... thru further testing, a spot on my hip....I begin Chemo next week.

I asked if this could have been from the prostate cancer...no-one seems to know.

Has anyone had a return of cancer following prostate removal?

Thanks,

At the PCRI Conference in Los Angeles last month, Dr. Fabio Almeida gave a presentation on PET/CT imaging using a Carbon-11 PET agent to identify prostate cancer tumors. He showed full body scans that "lit up" PC tumors in other areas, including lungs, sturnum, etc.

In answer to your question "has anyone had a return of cancer following prostate removal?", the answer is yes, and that's why PSA is monitored post-surgery. That's a common indicator for PC tumors elsewhere in the body. But, there is also now technology that can identify tumors outside the pelvic area and help doctors determine best treatment options.

I do not claim to be any expert on this but you may wish to explore the imaging topic further. Dr. Almeida is at Phoenix Molecular Imaging in Phoenix, AZ and may be able to give you (or your doctor) further insight on whether the technology would be appropriate in your situation.

Good luck!

Thanks Ken....I had the pet scan...in Chicago at Northwestern...and it showed cancer in my lung and on my pelvic bone...my PSA remains normal...I begin Chemo on Thursday...My hope is that the Chemo stops the growth of the cancer cells and then I can decide the next step.

Jerry, that's good to know. In your first post there was no indication of what tests or other exams you've had recently and many guys don't seem to be aware of some of the newer technology.

Hope this all goes well,

Ken
