Hormone surges and drops. what causes the depression exactly if anyone knows?

Does anyone know which hormone it is that makes you feel depressed in the days leading up to the first day of bleeding? I've read you get a surge in Estrogen 7-10 days before period, then that drops and you get a surge in Progesterone 5 days before. I wander what exactly makes you feel bad, i know its the hormone imbalance but is it the surge of one of the two? or is it the sudden drop in one of the two? the progesterone or the estrogen?

Hi, angviolet! Welcome!

The drop in estrogen during your premenstrual week is related to a drop in mood-stabilizing serotonin. That, plus insomnia can do a number on your mental health before your period. I recommend checking out the Hormone Horoscope site for excellent visuals

and explanations of the changes that take place during your cycle.

The site's creator, Gabrielle Lichterman, even came up with an app to help you track your cycle and predict how it will change your mood, energy, even your appearance and speaking skills. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Wow. You're awesome. I will check that out right now. Thanks 🤗
