Night sweats

Hi everyone, any suggestions for night sweats and day sweats too!! I tried sage leaf supplement but they made me feel sick. I have Crohn's disease too so have to be careful what I'm taking. The sweats are disrupting my sleep terribly. Bed soaking wet in the night, get up 2to 3 times to change my nightie๐Ÿ˜’ I know we all respond differently to different things but any tips will be gratefully received. Thankyou in advance ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Hi there ๐Ÿ˜Š. I suffer the same unfortunately. You could try b complex and vitamin c if you are able to tolerate those (crohns wise) I'm not certain as to whether they will definitely help with the night sweats directly but they could be useful in helping balance out hormones, aswell as maybe magnesium? Again im really not sure if they would be helpful or not. Have you had any vitamin/mineral or hormone testing at all? X

  • Hi Christina, I had my bloods done a couple of weeks ago, they're all ok. Most of them are just within the range of normal. I got copies of my results. I take ferragloblin, which is a supplement I bought from boots. It's iron with b vitamins. I can't tolerate Iron tablets off GP.i also take b12 on top of that. I take vitamin cC with it. I had a blood transfusion in hospital as my iron levels were low. I'm constantly opening and closing Windows!! On and off with clothes!! Too hot! Then cold!! Are you the same? I have a bath(cool) then I have a sweat!! I eat, then I sweat!! Not much fun is it๐Ÿ˜I shall try the magnesium though, Thankyou. X

  • Aww okay. Sorry to hear you have such a hard time with it all. If you're happy that your vitamin/mineral levels are okay then at least we know it's not those that need improving. I do appreciate there being absorption issues with crohns regarding vitamins and minerals. Has your doctor or your specialist ever measured or tested your thyroid function, or your estrogen/progesterone levels at all? (I know most doctors don't test the latter because mostly they come back within range) but just to ask anyway. The only things that I have heard or researched which can could cause sweating or extreme sweating (aside pms/pmdd/menopause aside) is an overactive thyroid or high cortisol levels (cushings syndrome or high cortisol levels without there being an underlying cause. There could be probably a million and one other issues which can cause or contribute towards this that I don't know of. Without being a medical professional I don't claim to be 100% correct/accurate or certain in what I've said, it's just I thought I'd share with you what info I had. I do sympathise with you though, it's terribly uncomfortable and frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ž. I'm sure other people may be able to help you more, im just sorry I can't provide anything concrete info wise to definitely help you. I'd love to hear from others also, (I have a hand held fan on full pelt for my face as I write this ๐Ÿ˜‚) x

  • Well that's funny, I was just having a tantrum asking my other half to get my fan for me so I was fanning myself too!!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜I went to docs and asked for my vitamin d testing on 1st of August. That's when she said she thought I was in menopause due to my symptoms as I was concerned it was the Crohn's. It's only 10 weeks since my operation.i lost 2and a half stone in 5 months due to being ill. Anyway they pretty much tested everything. My vitamin D is 54.1 nmol/L. 50-250 is classed as adequate!! 30-50 is insufficient so I'm just within the range. I do need to get my levels up on thyroid is 0.731 mu/L. The range classed as normal is 0.350-4.94 so I'm at the low end. I haven't had estrogen and progesterone tested as far as I know. You have been helpful Thankyou x

  • I hope your other half got your fan as requested ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚. If your doctor thinks you could be menopausal or peri menopausal then you could ask for estrogen and progesterone to be tested just incase? Not sure if it would show anything abnormal but if the sweating gets worse and you're desperate or eager to explore other avenues further then I suppose that is an option. Your vitamin d levels are almost borderline. I appreciate the Dr States they are in range but there is definitely room for inprovement with your current levels. It's possible that this is contributing towards your sweating? Just guessing really but regardless of that your Dr should repeat your vitamin d tests soon to make sure you don't head into a deficiency. Your TSH level looks more at the lower end (though still within range) it's more toward overactive than underactive. Maybe keep an eye on the Vit D and thyroid to ensure levels don't decrease further for both. I hope you manage to sort the sweating issue out. ๐Ÿ˜“. Hopefully somebody will be able to provide you with alternative suggestions and be a bit more helpful x

  • Yes I will Thankyou, I shall get them to test them again when I go. Someone told me to get copies of my blood tests, that's why I did. So il always do that in future. You just get told they're OK and accept it as I didn't no any taking omeprazole too, at one point I was on 80mg a day as they said I had gastritis. My bowel perforated and I've now got a colostomy bag. I'm 10 weeks post op so trying to build myself up again!! I shall take all your advice on board. He did get me my fan๐Ÿ˜€He's good like that, thanks for your help x

  • Getting copies of your blood tests is definitely a wise move. Oh dear I'm so sorry to hear that, I really hope you get well and see some improvement soon. How awful ๐Ÿ˜ž huge hugs. Aww great glad he came to the rescue with the fan ๐Ÿ˜ xx

  • Thanks Christina, bye for now. Thanks again for your help ๐Ÿ˜€X

  • Sorry Just with you mentioning you have crohns and take various vitamins/minerals, have they checked your vitamin d levels at all?

  • Just a little supplement to Christina's amazing support:

I thought the bit about insulin and diet changes was important. Please keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

    Sending you lots of support!

  • What a great article!!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ So much useful information ๐Ÿ˜Š brilliant stuff. X

  • Hi Red, ice read the report and I do eat more carbohydrates than I should. I don't touch dairy Due to my Crohn's on the advice of someone else that has it. I was also advised to cut down on sugar!! As I used to be a chocoholic that was haed๐Ÿ˜ซHowever I did it. I decided yesterday to bake some cakes, I did a lemon loaf for me and a walnut one for my partner. I cut the sugar content down to half and was still shocked to see how much still went in!! However it was lovely๐Ÿ˜Š And dairy free of course!! Well after another night of huffing and puffing!! Sweating! Getting up and getting changed!! Feeling cold then sweating again!! On with the fan!! Off with the fan!! What a drama!! I feel the need for a cup of tea (caffeine free of course) as I do believe caffeine makes the symptoms worse!! Happy days๐Ÿ˜ Will work on trying other supplements, thanks for your input and support. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Have a great day to you and anyone else who reads the posts x

  • Awe, no problem. And do feel free to share recipes on here as well! Your cakes sound lovely! :-)

  • I haven't had choc or cake in 10 weeks so it was a special treat๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘x

  • Hi there I just noticed this when I was reading your profile and I use a progesterone cream which stopped my sweats it's a natural one as well menogest โ˜บ

  • Ahh right Thankyou!!i shall look into that!! I think back in the day I'd have been burned as a witch! I've got that many vitamins!! Lotions and potions I'm trying out for different things๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚but ill try most things as long as they're not harmful to me. we've got to try haven't we. I can hear my bank balance screaming as we speak!! Noooooo what are you buying now!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜€

  • I know what you mean about trying lots of things and the expense. Just to help it only costs ยฃ4 equivalent if you buy it direct from Swanson the manufacturer and it gets delivered in about 10 days. You don't pay customs at that charge and the delivery is only ยฃ2 on top of that and you can track the package which I like because then you know it's on its way or where it is. I ordered it from a seller on Jersey and it was a disaster and took about 5 weeks to arrive & more ยฃs. Very expensive on ebay. It's got some pretty cool ingredients check it out x

  • Will do, Thankyou x

  • I know this post is a year old and hopefully you've found your solution, but for anyone who might read this in the future, I take over the counter Estrover which is a rhubarb extract. It completely helped my night sweats and hot flashes. I also take a yam based progesterone troche that helps with other perimenopausal symptoms.
