I've tried numerous diets and sometimes this shit just kicks off for no reason :/. However, there are certain foods I most certainly need to avoid: caffiene, high fat, high insoluble fibre.

Sorry that's not much help :( , but I think a lot of people have tried various diets, eliminating certain foods etc, but nothing is 100% guaranteed to work and keep symptoms away. Good luck :o.

Thanks for your insight. I’m trying low FODMAP. I think too much fat and fiber is an issue. Also, too much food at one sitting probably isn’t good either. But sometimes it’s just random. Thanks again.

Hello 43531438 ... what GI symptoms do you have? I had pelvic radiation for cervical cancer 6 years ago with diarrhea ongoing from 2 weeks into RT to present. But the last couple of years it's gotten even worse ... horrible bloating and nausea. Do you have these types of symptoms as well? I finally met with a dietician two weeks ago and she put me on low FODMAP. It does seem to be helping a bit so far. Also L-Glutamine and vitamin D to decrease gut permeability. What are your symptoms and have you consulted a GI registered dietician?

My symptoms are: gas, bloating, cramping (quite severe at times), fatigue, fluctuate between diarrhea and constipation, sometime vomiting. . I’m 20 years out from radiation, and was relatively fine until about 8 years ago. These episodes seem to happen out of nowhere, but I know I must be eating wrong food and the amount of food. I’ve given up ass gassy food. I’m going to ask to see a GI dietitian. Thanks for you info and support.

Hello. I find that I cannot handle dairy anymore and high fiber really does a number on me. It's trial and error a lot of times. Best to you

I do the 'trial and error' diet. A lot of pulses disagree with me - a few butter beans are OK as are tinned baked beans.

I've done a FODMAP diet which highlighted wheat intolerance and helped a bit with loose bowels but still trying to figure out triggers for what I call my Chernobyl's!

I had my radiotherapy treatment over 30 years ago and have been suffering from PRD symptoms for about 10 years. Recently they have become much worse and I am now under the care of an Intestinal Failure Unit. The specialist dieticians have helped me a lot. My diet is very restricted and in order to avoid bad ‘flare-ups’ I have to be extremely careful what I eat. I have been advised to avoid foods which contain high amounts of resistant starches, especially reheated or cooked and cooled rice, potato or pasta. Like fibre, the body can have trouble in breaking these down. As others have said, it really is trial and error. I find that it helps me to understand how the digestive system reacts to different types of food and why they have to be avoided if you have intestinal damage.

I’ll research resistant starches. Thanks for the tip.

I tend to turn to the BRAT (bananas, rice, apples, toast) diet when I have bad flare ups as this was suggested during treatment although this is only for acute flare ups and not long term due to the risk of malnutrition. I definitely can’t tolerate much fibre so tend to stick to white bread, pasta, rice etc. and minimal fruit and veg 🙁

I find a vegan diet beneficial but nothing works all the time.
