Five minute mindfulness

This five minutes needs the sound of a bell tolling. You can help to alleviate stress and worry by practicing mindfulness, and you can use the help of a bell. If you don't have one handy there are many useful recordings to be found on YouTube so I'll include a link to one. For best results it needs to be a substantial bell with a deep resonating sound.

Sit comfortably and try to be relaxed. Think about all of your body. Are there tensions anywhere? Try to let them go as best that you can.

Listen intently to the sound of the bell. Notice that it doesn't just 'bong'. It sweeps in with a loud ringing sound, but then the sound waves continue on, resonating in waves which become weaker and weaker, until there is silence. In the space between 'bongs', just sit quietly until the next 'bong'.

Life's like this. Events come in waves, with periods of pleasure or calm in between. Crises start with a 'bong' and cause the maximum stress and upset. Then they dissipate, over minutes, days, months or even years. But nothing will stay the same.

Five minutes is a good length of time to sit with a bell. But if you find it's relaxing, then of course it's OK to continue for longer.

Hi Sue thanks I'll try it later when I've dabbled in meditating I find deep breath in and chant aowmme don't know how to spell it it has to be done aloud and slowly you probably know it and it really has a soothing effect on the mind and it is similar to the bell I think I used to find listening to a old grandfather clock tick tock and the charm really good 😊🤗🌟

I agree Mandy that the slow tick of a clock is one of the most soothing and calming sounds in the world. Yes, Mindfulness of Breathing is a very common and recommended method of practising meditation!

I used to Fing loud purring soothed me to sleep but pixie only purrs gentle when I cuddle him so that's a shame he's just had his flea drops so he's asleep and no sun grey sky hope you have a peaceful warm day 😊🐆

He's looking very purry in this photo Mandy! Cats can be very calming. I love it when they sit on your knee and purr and somehow feeling their velvety little paw pads makes me very calm too!

Yes I love it when they make bread pixie never got out of the silly kitten habit when thinking he was doing his making bread action that was looking for his cat mums milk and he used to do something I can't say on here I call it his little matchstick it was very bizare how he did That thinking it was his mum he still tries now when he's cosy on soft fabric but he can't reach and his claws sometimes go on my leg so I have to try move him without upsetting him lol

Thanks Callendarsgal. I love this sound, it's so spiritual and peaceful, I used to like the Tingsha bells but this is so much better and is far more positive.

I like tingsha bells too springcross and do use them sometimes, but there's nothing like the sound of a big bell actually resonating in your chest! And sends out its message far into the distance!

Yes I have Alb2. I am a practising Buddhist so this is a very dear and beautiful chant for me. I listen to it almost every day. Do you think it's as lovely as I do (whether as a Buddhist or not)?
