I bored and wanna talk but also wanna be productive (they don't exactly go together do they)

Hi, y'all I bored and wanna do everything but HW but I also want to be productive right now. I know that is contradicting but that is how I work. My brain is struggling to focus but I still have stuff I need to do, and I miss being around people even though I was just around people and felt guilty like I should be doing school instead. I need help and advice. I have been very all over the place since quarantine started and have struggled to keep a routine in place but have tried to create some because I know they are beneficial. I failed a class because of the stress I got from seeing a specific assignment I have to do (I am an A, B student and a perfectionist who likes nothing less than I know I can score). I am working to get it up or may drop it if that does not seem possible (which is how it is looking right now) but that would mean I would have to do it later. I would rather have a withdraw than an F. (it is also because despite all my studying I do not really understand the material this is the same in another class I have a D in) um anything else? I miss my BF (he moved), I am doing college in high school, my focus has gotten worse recently (I go through phases of good focus and bad focus) I do not know what my style is (it can change daily) Idk where I am going with this anymore I am just bored and want people to talk to (and help)

Hi,

What subjects are bugging you right now??

Quarantine is a bummer and no fun for sure and it would be so easy to say ‘make the most of it!!’ But you’re at your prime social energy wise and need the buzz of people around you so try not to give yourself a hard time about things .... and being a ‘perfectionist’ is hard work so maybe try down grading for a while to being ‘flaming good!!’ 🙃

All the best

Ali

Hi, I have my F in astronomy and my D in econ. I am also very social (I like to joke that I am too social for my own good but it's a joke with truth woven into it). I agree a perfectionist is hard work someone should pay me for it😂😂😂but until then I guess I will take the time off like you suggest. Thanks for helping you made me smile.

Sorry I know precious little astronomy or econ so can’t offer any pearls of wisdom that will open the heavens or rain money down for you ..... 😔 but I’m pleased that a smile is now shining through ... your generation are having to be so courageous whist missing out on so much right now - ‘keep going and things will eventually pan out’ is all I can currently add!👍🏼👏👍🏼

yes, yes, and, yes You are pretty good at guessing. I am 16 and thanks.

I'm a really old lady teen_anxiety but I do recognise that restless teen brain you are describing. You're at an exciting time in your life with so much to come in future, and much of it's been put on hold by the pandemic. You can't settle to anything. You know you are wasting time but you are so itching to get on with life that you can't seem to settle down to anything.I just want to say that this will pass. Boredom seems like the worst thing in the world to endure when you are young. Later in life you'll probably find yourself dying for a few quiet minutes to just sit and be.

Hope you find someone to talk to and keep your mind a little bit calmer, but don't worry about all of this. I used to HATE it when someone said, "it's your age" when I was young, but honestly, looking back..... it was! Take care and enjoy life!

If you’re having trouble understanding the content for your classes, you might want to have a little talk with your teachers/professors (that’s what they’re there for). Studying something you don’t understand sounds like a belt with a watch on it (I wonder who’ll understand that pun 😜). Personally when I don’t understand what I’m‘studying I feel very uncomfortable, and it doesn’t stick. Understanding is when it makes sense in your mind. If it doesn’t make sense, how can you study it effectively? A good understanding of the concepts that apply to what you’re working on is essential.

I understand what you mean when you say that you got really stressed from seeing an assignment you’re gonna have to do. It happens to me too. Dividing assignments like that into smaller pieces is definitely beneficial for me, maybe it can for you too. Do whatever you can at first glance (maybe put some starting ideas for harder parts), and then be done for a while. When you come back to it, try a little more, and then a little more later. As you get some work done, you’ll see that you can do it, and there’s less to do now. That helps with the overwhelming stress of an assignment. Direct your focus to specific parts, try to think about finishing one thing at a time, rather than the assignment as a whole.

If this is an assignment you won’t have for a significant amount of time, then don’t worry about it just yet. Instead, focus on understanding what you have in the present. That will build a foundational understanding that you may need for the assignment later on. Basically, why spend energy on something you can’t control or change? That’s like wanting an apple to not fall when you drop it. If there’s nothing you can do about something until it arrives at some later time, then deal with it when it does come. There are other things that need your attention.

I hope that helps :) and if you want to chat sometime, I’m here for that too.

I get it! When struggling with focus, I use a strategy. I write a list, after I have prayed and asked God to help me to get focused on what HE wants me to do. Then I try to follow through on the list! Hope this helps!
