The 'Borrowers' Arrive!

After what must be six or seven years of doll's house ownership, I'm delighted to see that some inhabitants have arrived to take up residence overnight. My daughter asked on every visit when the 'borrowers' would be moving in, and here they are.

They must have finally seen the potential in my dwelling, when I finally provided them with some lighting.

Of course a doll's house is an ongoing project. Just like real people, in the tiny people's world, furniture and furnishings are coming and going all of the time. I generally do more work with mine during the winter months, when going out is sometimes tedious due to bad weather and cold, and more so this year, no doubt when staying home as much as possible is so important.

The headache for the new inhabitants now is where to get some staff!

I read somewhere that some dad started building a doll's house for his daughter - and got it finished for his grand-daughter!

I can really believe that S11m. It seems to me that I often get more fretful over mine than I do my own home! 🤣

'Spore Attic'😊..... I knew you 'Would Worm' that one in😀. Isn't it a lovely Dolls House, that Sue has, even with lights too.

Regrettably Neither my Sister, nor her Daughter, were into Doll's Houses. I suppose I could have Had one myself, and Insisted it was a Club House.....

Maybe Someone' has a Lady Penelope Car, that they could 'pass on', that would look brilliant. I know that, there is, a whole Range of 'Barbie' paraphernalia available now.... but it's probably very expensive- and Not Really, what's wanted.

I just think a 'Period' car, of some sort, would add a 'Finishing' touch. Any ideas anyone?

Once again Beautiful Sue, thank you for Sharing this🤗.

It’s so magical and wonderful, what a fantastic hobby to have. Must bring hours of joy. The furnishings are incredible. 🌸😊

Thanks bobbybobb. I love doing it and the great thing is that when you've had enough for a while you can just shut the doors and forget about it until the next wave of fervour! Someone once said to me that the joy of a doll's house is that you can open the doors and peek in at any time, and all you'll find is an immaculate house. Often a relief after looking at my own! 🤣

How's Chelsea the British blue getting on?

Baby is fine and is envious of our prawn cocktail for tonight's dinner!

Hi catgirl1976, I haven't been able to see her for a while, but my daughter reports that she's growing fast, and no wonder as there's no kind of food she won't eat, and no end to her wiles to get it! She's also now demanding iced water from the fridge, having got fed up with her water fountain. Do you think she's just a tiny bit spoiled maybe? 🤣

Sounds like a British blue version of Baby!

What a beautiful house Sue, a showpiece, it's definitely a keepsake. The clothes that the lady is wearing are beautiful, so elegant.

What a fantastic hobby, much easier having the task of painting a doll's house rather than the ones we live in ;)

Alicia :)

Thanks Alicia! I'd wanted to do it for ages and then when I first got it I was a bit overwhelmed, having seen those 'money no object' ones which some people have, all with expensive furniture straight from the shelf which I couldn't afford. So I started to make mine eclectic and to create and adapt things myself and then it became real fun. And, as you say an awful lot easier to paint a doll's house than my own! 😁

I love this dolls house, what a great hobby to have! The furnishings are excellent :)

I remember when i was a little girl, i had always wanted a dolls house but my parents just could not afford to get me one. My dad, every evening, would lock himself in a room, he just said he had work to do. Then when it was my birthday i had a big present to unwrap, he had actually built me a dolls house with all the furnishings, i was ecstatic, it was fantastic! I will never forget that :)

Wow what a lovely dolls house, you must get so much pleasure out of pottering about in here, good to have such a peaceful hobby xx

My daughter-in-law does dolls houses, do you mind me asking if you know any good sites on line for getting the things to do it these days? We used to have two shops locally but they have all become obsolete with computers taking over.

Hi katieoxo60.

Lovely to hear of another dolls house enthusiast. Most of my things have been bought online, found in charity shops or created by me. But I have bought a few things directly from specialist dolls house sites too. I also find ebay and amazon have more competitive prices than buying directly from online stores.

Several of those I have used are

Dolls House Emporium: dollshouse.com

Streets Ahead: minimumworld.com/

Dolls House Mania: dollshousemania.co.uk

All of those have a wide range of accessories and Dolls House Emporium in particular is especially good for structural accessories.

My latest find is a bit of a long shot and would probably only be good if your daughter-in-law lives anywhere near it. It's a tiny shop in Northleach, Gloucestershire, which I visited during my holiday in Warwick. The owner is somewhat eccentric but really knowledgeable and although the shop is absolutely tiny and seemed muddled, she had an absolute grip on what was in stock. In her case it is mostly second hand furniture, but of course she does have some gems and she is willing to post items. But probably best to make arrangements with her to visit to view the items first. To order by post, or to visit I'd suggest calling her direct first and she'll discuss your needs or open up for you at a mutually good time. The number is 01451 860431

I hope that your daughter-in-law has as much fun as I've had over the years with this lovely and absorbing hobby! 🏠🛁🧺🧹👍😊
