Calling All Readers!

This is our September 2020 Reading Rabbits Book Posting. You can post your comments and suggestions about any book/magazine/newspaper that does/doesn't have to do with any medical issues on this posting. You can mention about your favorite authors, as well. This posting will be pinned to the Pinned Posts for easier access.

For the last few days, I’ve gotten some reading done of β€œThe Sea Is My Brother: The Lost Novel”, by Jack Kerouac. I’m right now on Part 3 and page 234 at the bottom. This part of the book is where there’s some poems and short stories done by Jack and Sebastian Sampas as a team effort. They are part of the β€œPioneer Club” section of the book. Very interesting so far!

Okay, over to you all! Can’t wait to hear about what you’ve been reading! :-)

I picked up a little hard back book while out looking for books for my mum and trying to find a factual dinosaur book for a 5 year old. Any way, it's not the sort of book I would buy but the title was Resilience and the fact it was half price, I had a look. I bought it anyway. How to turn adversity into strength. Josh Floyd. It's nothing heavy going but it is a book of quotes, proverbs and a bit of mindfulness. It's the sort of thing useful if your having a bit of a wobble in the day or feeling a bit sorry for yourself. I thought it's a great little book for those returning to work or finding it difficult adjusting to the new normal. The quotes are a little boost of enlightenment. I'll just give you one quote out of it. "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us". πŸ‘πŸŒΌ

That's true! Reading poetry/sayings counts as something if the person enjoys it. How long is the book? :-)

After I finish "The Sea Is My Brother", I plan to read "The Chef", by James Patterson in the next few weeks. That book has some interesting recipes along with the actual story. It takes place in New Orleans.

I hope your headache went away and you're feeling better. :-)

I hope you were able to get Paul O'Gradys' autobiography started. How long is it?

I'm going to do some reading later today since it's raining and I really enjoy the book. :-)

No had to give in and have a lie down but hopefully soon.

It's 340 pages.

Glad your enjoying yours. It sounds interesting

It's moving along very fast and nicely. I'm almost to page 300, but that may be by the time I go to bed tonight. :-)

I've stayed up all night to finish a book before today

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to Craftyperson

I never stayed up all night to read before, but when my cousins and I were younger, we had a sleepover and stayed up all night! The latest I can stay up these days (except to celebrate the new year) is around 11 or 11:30 pm. :-)

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to Activity2004

I'm usually up till 1.30 or 2am but at moment struggling to stay up past 8pm so I'm doing good today though starting to flag. I once read a whole book in one night just couldn't put it down. Kept thinking just next.chapter!!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to Craftyperson

That's how I am sometimes depending on the book I have started. If it isn't that good, I may either just put it away without finishing it (hasn't happened in a long time) or I come back to it later in the next day or two.

Thank you, Hidden . :-) No sorry for the delay in getting back to me. Everyone can take their time when they need to. No rush necessary at all.

Yes, that sounds like a great book and with the Glossary, it may get close to 400 pages. :-)

My friend from my high school years got me the book, "The Chef" as a birthday present for this year. Still thinking of when to have a try with the recipes that are in the story. I was hoping for the temps. to get a little cooler so it won't be too hot in the house when we do try them. :-)

As for the "The Sea Is My Brother", I got some reading of it done last night before heading to bed. I'm right now on page 243.

Lately I have been reading dog eat dog and little boy blue by Edward Bunker and I have enjoyed those books as they are different to the ones I usually read.

Activity2004 profile image

I hope you enjoy them both. They sound interesting. When did you start them? :-)

Hi everyone,

This month I reviewed a poetry book for the author KB Marie. Birds and other Dreamers is modern poetry about love, life and all other emotions. I read one or two poems a day and reflected the meaning. It really helped focus my mind onto something different.

The reason I was sent an ARC copy is that she is a paranormal author ((Kory M Shrum) and I have read all her books so she thought I might like to try her poetry.

I love seeing what everyone else is reading each month even though I read mostly paranormal books now I do read mainstream sometimes.

Hope everyone has a good month x

Your poetry book sounds great! I'm glad you are enjoying it and that you get to read two poems a day from it. It's nice to know that authors will give books they've done to their readers to see if they will keep up with what they have written. An author had done that same thing years ago when I was in school and I got a book for free and signed.

Since I had a few errands to run today, I brought my book to read and got about 2.5 pages done. I plan to read more later this evening before I go to bed tonight (was too tired last night so just went to sleep). :-)

Half way through shopaholic and baby by Sophie kinsella that I started this morning and I finished the godmother by Carrie Adams last Friday.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to

I like the Sophie Kinsella books. I have some here at home, too. It’s been a while since I read them, though.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

How did you like the Carrie Adams book?

in reply to Activity2004

The Carrie Adams book was great and kept me entertained.

I finished the Sophie kinsella book this morning as I decided to have a morning to myself as I was full of anger and resentment over the covid situation and it helped me to take my mind off it as a nice walk mid morning which burned off the angry feelings!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to

That's a great way to get rid of what bothers us. I sometimes do the samething when I get mad. I ignore what bothers me and read as much as I can-- if I can focus on what I'm reading. In other ways, that's a great stress reliver, too. Always have a book near by for last minute stress relivers and situations. :-)

How do you like The Trophy Child?

in reply to Activity2004

The trophy child is great and I can't put it down!

Listening to music I find helps with stress as well.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to

That's great about the book and listening to music. I listen to music during the day when I'm in my room. :-)

Started a book by Paula Daly this morning called the trophy child that I bought in chepstow on Saturday.

Started a book by Susan Lewis called Wicked beauty this lunchtime which is starting to get good as I finished the trophy child on Thursday just before the upset happened over that insensitive feature on a daytime TV program here in the UK claiming Christmas parties in the run up to the actual days are off and the usual events as well and I had got ever so upset as it had brought up grief over previous cancelled events and the unfairness of it all but it came out as anger and resentment but I feel better now after talking about it and I have written a letter of complaint to ITV where the this morning program is held!

Glad you're feeling better and you are enjoying your book. Sometimes, we have stop, think and relax.:-)

I did some reading last night before going to bed. I'm on page 302 of " The Sea Is My Brother: The Lost Novel". I'm up to the part of where Sebastian thinks Jack didn't want to write/keep in touch anymore because it's been a long time since the last message from Jack to him. Sebastian wants to come for Thanksgiving and see Jack so they can have a long talk about what's going on in person. :-)

in reply to Activity2004

Finished wicked beauty by Susan Lewis this afternoon.

That's fantastic to hear, Hidden ! How did you like it? What's the next book you plan to read?

I'm more than half way done with "The Sea Is My Brother: The Lost Novel". I'm thinking I will finish it tonight after dinner and before heading to bed. I will start reading "The Chef" next. :-)

How's your evening going?

I read a memoir by Isobella Jade this week. The book is a teaching tool as well as a discussion starter. I engaged whilst reading the book and teared up as well. The message of acceptance is clear. I love books that make me think.
