Never before have I been moved to post a picture of food!
But this is different.
When Paul asked me, last week, what kind of cake I wanted for my birthday (we bake our birthday cakes every year - a ritual that we call Cakey), I did what I do most years - choose a flavour/variety that's slightly more challenging than plain sponge!
I requested a pina colada cake.
(Pina colada is my favourite cocktail. Basically, pudding in a glass.)
I adore coconut. 🌴
I love pineapple.🍍
I like the occasional thimbleful of dark rum. 😁
And I'm slightly unhinged when it comes to cream. 🍨
So, yes, pina colada.🍹 It seemed only logical.
Now, I knew that Paul would do a good job. He's a rather wonderful cook and his baking skills get better every year.
But I wasn't prepared for the final result.
This birthday girl, spoilt silly by the most thoughtful presents I could wish for, on a day that was epic from beginning to end, was then presented with perfection. In the form of cake. 🎂
Yes, it tasted as scrumptious as it looked. More than.
You know that thing your inner child does when it chances upon something yummy?
Yup - my inner child did just that. 🐖

The question is: how is Paul ever going to top this?
He has officially peaked. 🏅

Oh no! All those lovely nicies you're missing out on...
We managed to reverse my Mum's type 2 diabetes. She was put on oral metformin for approx. 2 years. We tried to encourage her to eat more healthily (it helps that I'm in charge of all of Mum's food). She still likes her cakes and biscuits, but has them slightly less often. And there's no sign of that diabetes...
So stick with it and ask for repeat bloodwork every year at the very least. You might well surprise yourself! 💜💜

And I know a certain lady who enjoyed it to the max! Namely, you! What a triumph of a cake! I see you said Paul has peaked with this, but I'm not so sure. It is a cake of unbelievable yumminess a visual delight and a photograph of beauty as it is a work of art. I would say it took much skill for such a creation and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It's really good to know you had an amazing day with your family, I wouldn't have expected anything less. He will have to do a lot of thinking for next years cake. I saved myself the tiniest morsel for tonight! I had a video chat with friends earlier today; then we had a little barbecue in the garden - such a lovely day - and now I have that final piece of loveliness to look forward to 😁
Diana, honestly - I know I'm going on about it a bit, but I'm drooling at the very thought of it! As Paul often says, "The first bite is with the eye...".

Oh wow, what an amazing cake and so much thought and love put in to making and decorating it. I'm so pleased a lovely, kind and thoughtful person was treated like the real lady she is.
Oh you are so welcome, it's well deserved. I used to make celebration cakes and do sugarcraft so I know the amount of effort and time put into it. This shows how much you are loved and appreciated.

Paul's card to me said similar... Wished me many more sofa evenings (they're legendary over at ours!), many more - well - lots of things. We realise we can't take anything for granted any more.
