It's a special day today in UK, on this the 75th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) day.
Thinking today of all of those who fought in World War 2 and also of those who did not fight, but 'kept the home fires burning', in so many different ways. I can only imagine the joy that everyone felt when Victory in Europe was declared.
Today we are fighting a war of a very different kind. It's been just as cruel and our army is a very different one, clad in their PPE and using very different weapons on a silent, hidden and every bit as dangerous enemy. Sending warmest wishes to all of them too. Courage comes in many different packages.
And I hope my choice today unites both groups of people.
And it's this:
"Once we have a war there is only one thing to do. It must be won. For defeat brings worse things than any that can ever happen in war".
-Ernest Hemingway-
Have a good day everyone, and celebrate just being here today. ππΊ

Hi Hidden , very fitting tribute.
Amazing people that fought in the war and as you say those that kept 'the home forest burning'. My mum was a Welder in the war but my granddad was too old to fight by the Second World War. My dad was in the Navy and fought at sea and this was before he met my mum.
You are so right, we are fighting a very different war today and one which is deadly, we can't see today's enemy but we can still fight it.
Stay safe all and we will win.

Really nice quote Callendersgal, they sacrificed there life's so that we could carry on . And yes this is a different war we are fighting now but one that must be won , defeat is not worth thinking about . x
We will never forget are mums a dads that helped in war my lovely dad from a little island in Canada as a young man on one of the ships that put the Bismarck Dawn and helped to end war. Came back to marry is sweethart he met in Liverpool xx
Absolutely, and I have a suggestion. VJ day is almost totally forgotten and it's veterans ignored. How about this year having a combined Celebration in August for both, VE and VJ Days?
