Creating structure and keeping distracted

I'm homeworking and live alone. Wondering how others are creating structure to their days and evenings during this time

Hi I would imagine it's much harder when you are living on your own. Do you have any pets? I get up and go for a walk for an hour in the morning after breakfast. Also I've started to do some watercolour painting with some old paints I've found. I'm no Van Gogh but I'm really enjoying it. I also listen to pop music and some times chanting music whichever I'm in the mood for. I also enjoy cooking and baking. I'm finding the evening harder than the days. I'm not able to work much at the moment due to covid 19. I hope you're managing okay and not feeling fed up with the lockdown? Ali

Hi Ali,

I don't have any pets, but one day would love to have a cat! Ive been walking once a day, getting a bit fed up of the same walk so probably should start varying it. Been baking, a fruit cake last week, but a big temptation to eat this every night! Done online yoga days and meditation online. I am starting work again from home next Wednesday also. But its a strange feeling being so disconnected. Ive very little family and few friends who are taking the trouble to call or keep in touch, and there's only so many times I feel I can do that or WhatsApp etc. I am watching too much telly as not feeling as motivated as I should. That's the hard part. That and not knowing how things are going to pan out or look like in the future, I do hope you will be ok.

Have you listened to light of your grace (beloved mooji baba) It was posted on here a couple of weeks ago and I’ve really enjoyed listening to it. It’s great for sitting and relaxing or having it on in the background. It’s on you tube.

I know what you mean. Things are becoming repetitive. I keep doing the same walk which I love but today I decided to drive to the woods about 5 mins away to see the bluebells before they go over. It’s the first time I’ve been anywhere other than my usual walk for about a month. I keep making cakes too! I don’t really want to eat the sugar but making it gives me something to do and then so does eating it!

Yoga sounds fun. I know what you mean it’s like living in a bubble. I’m not a great socialiser so have been semi isolating all my life lol but then when the government made it a “thing” it quickly lost its appeal!

Also I’ve got loads of Wayne dyer books so I’m re reading my way through those as there is always something new that you missed the first time round.

I started doing the watercolours as I knew when I looked back on this time I’d feel annoyed with myself if I hadn’t done something constructive. So that’s why I turned the tv off and started watching watercolour tutorials online.

I wonder what things will look like in the future as well, it’s a case of everything being thrown in the air and seeing what comes back down.

Good idea to get a cat or 2, they brighten up your day when you live alone. I now live alone and have 2 cats, Sox and Ginge and its like having 2 babies but beware of the saying; Dogs have masters but Cats have servants! So very true... warm wishes tina.x.🤗

Hi Halfpint, I'm sure it's challenging when working from home to structure time so that you get through with what work's necessary but then get some leisure time too. My daughter's been suffering with this. Endless video conferences and phone calls right into the evening at anyone's whim. I think that if that's a feature of working from home, it needs stating what hours you are working, so you don't end up on call 24/7. If that's not a facet, I'd say work your normal hours or less if you can, and then structure your free time into hobbies, exercise and just chilling out/eating.

Hi, no I work from 9-5pm and don't have any work in the evenings. Its just all pretty grey, and too much time having rhetorical conversations! Also my holiday which I was so looking forward to after having had such a bad year last year, is also cancelled so I feel there is nothing much to look forward to this year now. I also keep getting sent an endless supply of links to positivity workshops and how to cope in crisis type things which in turn are having the opposite effect on my mental health! And because none of us know how long this will last, this makes it all so much harder to cope with, as there isn't an end in sight
