Pleurisy and Covid 19

I am recovering from a very bad dose of Covid 19. I have had the 'Covid Cough' (with murderous looks when we went shopping despite being out of isolation) but this has developed into Pleurisy. Is this normal, or a known outcome for Covid19 and is there anything I can do? I am very worried about the whole situation as Covid 19 is such an unknown.

Hi SimoninKent,

So sorry you are suffering and anxious, and I can only imagine the stares you've received when trying to shop. I'm hoping that when you say you have developed pleurisy, you are under the care of medical professionals, as, if not, it's urgent that you seek help right away.

From a reliable NHS source, it does seem that pleurisy most often develops after a viral infection, so that would appear to definitely fall into the realms of post COVID19 after effects. There isn't much you can do alone which will help you except to take really good care of yourself. This apparently resolves most often on its own, but that should happen under the care and expertise of a doctor, so make sure you are taking good professional advice, and then I do think you probably should be having someone else take care of your shopping, if at all possible. Don't take any chances at all, and I wish you a good and speedy recovery. 🙏

Thank you so much Callendersgal. I am under my GP who stated pleurisy and is prescribing antibiotics. Being NHS myself, I will always seek medical advice. I just feel that if Covid 19 lies dormant as some sources suggest, that I want to be as fit and healthy as I can be if it re-emerges as last time it nearly had me. As such, pleurisy sounds impressive but no idea as to the meaning and consequences. :-)

Hi SimoninKent, You will be fit and healthy again, but in those well respected words of yore "don't push your luck". Be kind to yourself and work through this slowly. All the very best for a good recovery!😃

Thank you, and I am working proudly from home for the NHS! "Aint nothing gonna keep me down". LOL

Take care and thank you for the reassurance

Hi SimoninKent

I'm so sorry that you've had COVID-19 and I can fully understand how worried you are, it really is an unknown and I can only imagine how you've felt with people staring at you.

I've looked at NHS online and you will see that it can be caused by a viral infection.

I hope that the above helps but I think it may help if you contacted your GP and said how you are feeling.

Take care and hope you feel better very soon.

The looks come from fear (you can't blame them), people don't know you've had it and beaten it. I remember when I was quite young my Mum had pleurisy - I feel really sorry for you and I hope you get better soon. x

I almost positive I had it the week before announced.I used good ol vicks on my chest, I steamed and I beat my chest like a gorilla. There were two days I seriously couldn't move, felt my gurgle lungs and thought...oh I could float away...then I knew to FIGHT.So people oddly look at a mask and I think....you just dont know.

follow your docs advice but stay close...dont be afraid to ask.
