A quote for today

Hello and good morning everyone.

My quote today comes from Thich Nhat Hanh. He is a Zen Buddhist master, monk, and the founder of Plum Village, a practice centre, in France with its own philosophy of meditation practice. Thich Nhat Hanh promotes and practices world peace and I think this quotation is very relevant for the current time.

“Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.”

– Thich Nhat Hanh

I hope that thought will bring you a little consolation for our troubled times.

Please look after yourselves, be careful and overall, be happy.

Our religion says much the same

After hardship comes ease

Hi Roukaya,

Thanks for that. It's always good to have a better understanding of all faiths.

How are you today? I hope you are managing to stay positive and feeling well and happy. Take good care and have a great day.

Dear Callendersgal

I am feeling quite anxious today as my primary source of income is uncertain

I ring my Mother to see how she is

Once I get into an anxious state I find it difficult to concentrate on the task at hand

I also realise that I need to be careful with my anxiety issues when trying to obtain a reply

in reply to Roukaya

Hi Roukaya,

I'm so sorry to hear that you are in distress today. I really do understand that it must be so distressing when you have to wait for a response from your mum on the telephone. Any child or parent can understand those anxious minutes or hours until you find your loved one is still safe. And then if you are worried by your financial situation too, it must be so difficult for you.

I'd say deal with these issues one by one and try not to think about all your difficulties at once. I think I'd deal with getting in touch with your mum first. You'll feel much happier and reassured when you have spoken to her and know that she's safe.

I don't know what your financial circumstances are, but, in general, trying to work out a problem like that on paper sometimes helps. Like listing what you expect to receive, and when, and then listing all of your vital outgoings, like rent and bills and essential foods, then looking to see if there are any corners you can cut while the crisis goes on. And what help might be available to get you back on an even keel with your finances.

I think it's when we give in to our worries and don't start working on them that worry gets much worse.

But anyway, please stay in close touch with us all, and let us know how your day continues to go, and how you are feeling now.

Wishing you some help with your worries and please take care.

Dear Callendergall

I hope you are well

I thank you for your kind reply

I have dealt with financial uncertainty when managing my Fathers Personal and Business Estate

I am trying to negotiate a reduced income for the next two months

I have made a concession and I will be patient

I realise some people are very clever at manipulating the situation for their own financial benefit

I rang and explained my view point and

I am willing to accept a reduced income which is acceptable for both parties

I am had to deal with a situation by which if I had not acted my Father would have lost everything

I am able to manage

Given the experience I had previously I put some of my resources in a pot for a rainy day

I expect because I do not work having to face uncertainty concerning my sole income does make me anxious

I thank you for listening and answering me

I have been through an ordeal with my Father bring his carer and protecting him from near bankruptcy

I spoke to my Mother who is a self made entrepreneur who told me to fight harder for an acceptable amount

I have tendencies to think of the worst case scenario but I can by Gods grace cope

Lessons learnt from my Father

Our health and well-being and our ability to cope financially through this crisis is what matters

I have always been able to cope through my faith and though my Mother and now with the kindness of others on this site

A kind word of warmth can shine so brightly at times of uncertainty

in reply to Roukaya

Hi again Roukaya,

That sounds like an involved situation Roukaya but from all that you've written here, it seems that you have a good plan, so try not to worry too much.

Not only your mother but your faith is sustaining you, and that's wonderful to hear. It is actually silly of me to say 'don't worry' because I know you probably will, but I think that when you have a clear plan in your head, you can worry less.

Continue to get support from your mum and remember we're here too when you need. Take care and stay well.

Callendersgal, very apt quote, thank you. I'm fortunate in that I am able to have a telephone counselling session each Wednesday to help with my depressions and panic attacks and it's good to find a site where we can share our experiences, our hopes and even our woes. It helps too if the sun is out! Blessings.

in reply to SparkySW123

Thanks SparkySW123,

I'm so glad for you that you are receiving telephone consultations and help. That should mean that you'll get your support for longer and possibly for the entire duration of this horrible crisis. So glad it's helping to share with others. I think it's good for us all. And oh yes, that blessed sun. It's like a compensation that's been sent to help us all through! Take care and stay well.
