and cider shandy if not driving, black tea with milk

in reply to G1llHa1n

What is a " shandy" please?

G1llHa1n profile image
G1llHa1n in reply to

Shandy is a mix of half long alcoholic drink mixed with half lemonade - low cal or otherwise - I like the cider mix but others commonly use beer/lager

.I find the cider mix more refreshing - but too easy to drink lots of on a hot day🀨

in reply to G1llHa1n

Thank you I'll have give that a try..Uh. hmmmmm don't mix anything with beer or ale other than tomato or Clamato and Tabasco. And it's only on a rare occasion at that

Water but sometimes with cordial

Great Poll Leah, for summer I always loved Shlor sparking grape juice (no sugar) sadly I can not have that anymore, or a Mango Iced Cooler, not sure what I will have now, maybe just filtered water

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to Kitten-whiskers

Hi Debs,

Sorry to hear that you can't have the cooler or sparkling grape juice, but filtered water sounds good. I have filtered water at most of my meals and some diet soda or other none sugared drinks-- unless I need it. :-)

Thank you for saying that about the poll. I appreciate that very much. :-)

Thank you Leah, I do miss the Shlor but since the IBS, its not worth the pain. Filtered water is fine with me 😁

Yes, filtered water is a good idea. I can’t have certain juices or fruits because of medications I’m on for blood pressure issues.πŸ₯›πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

Thats a good point, you do have to be careful

Lemonade, Sparkling Water. When it's really hot and nasty I tank up on good old H2O.. I prefer it straight from the tap.I learned from working outside all day in Phoenix, cold water can cause stomach cramps and one heck of a headache 😫

Ginger and lemon cordial, with a dash of tonic... very very weak because of the sugar, but the dash of tonic makes it a bit more refreshing, I find...

I like Diet Cream and other diet flavored sodas/drinks as floats and without the ice cream. Do you do the floats once a week in the Summer? :-)

Cold drinks are a very rare event for me. I still tend to stick with hot tea and coffee but just occasionally I enjoy a 'cooler'.

My Mother used to do iced coffee when entertaining, jug of double strength coffee, fill up with ice cubes, then serve with tot of Crème de Menthe in the bottom of the glass. Dad used to add Drambuie. I also like Cranberry juice out of the fridge. When I could still drink alcohol liked Gin and Tonic with ice.

Hi all. I'm curious. Pleeeeeease pardonmy American curiosity and stereotyping.

What is it with Brits and Gin ?

13ga profile image
13ga in reply to

hey laz!

pleeease pardon my american curiosity....

what's your problem with gin ???? ;-)

vodka seems to be a VERY popular spirit in our country.... and gin is nothing more than vodka with some juniper berry inspiration!!!

.

besides.... why would you judge a country's alcoholic preferences - when that country puts milk in tea!!!???? personally - i find that far more questionable than drinking gin!!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!! ;-) :-) 8-)

in reply to 13ga

13ga.. Back the manuer truck up and dump it elsewhere. It was a simple inquiry. Nothing more nothing less.

Don't put words on in the thread that weren't there. No judgment either.

Again simply asking for clarification of what appears to be a country's preferred libation .

Now then, if you can't play nicely, Bugger off.

Activity2004 in reply to 13ga

Hi 13ga ,

Not everyone is going to like the same things to eat/drink. For example, I don’t drink anything with alcohol because it can interfere with my blood sugar and certain medication that I’m prescribed. I drink diet sodas, water, some juices, hot/iced tea, smoothies and unsweetened lemonade with Sweet’N’Low mixed in for flavor. I hope this helps.

I will have to get ready soon for bedtime tonight, so I will be back in the morning after breakfast. Enjoy your night. Good night!πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

in reply to 13ga

And what is wrong with putting milk in tea or coffee? Tea, made in a teapot with extra hot water. 1 teabag per person plus one for the pot. Give it a stir and let it stand for a couple of minutes. Put a drop of milk in the cup first (not too much), give the tea a final stir and pour tea pot. It should be a golden brown colour. I don't have sugar or sweeteners but add to taste if you wish. It tastes better in tea cups than mugs.

Gin and slimline tonic with a slice of lemon or lime and the same with Vodka. My spirit of choice would be Ron's Bacardi and diet coke/Pepsi Max; make it a large one with ice.

πŸ˜‹

stillaboveground profile image
stillaboveground in reply to

Hi Bifield34 I quite agree with you, I can't stand it when they chuck a teabag in the bottom of a thick mug, tea should always be made in a teapot and then poured into a nice cup, lovely. Not with you with the gin thing, I can't stand the stuff. Take care and keep safe. Ruth

uh oh.... i just realized i had a 3rd issue with Hidden 's reply....

tea bag!?!?!?!?

ok i'm a bit of a tea snot too... i NEVER use bags!!! loose tea only for me!!!! ;-)

surely the brit's would agree? no ??

13ga profile image
13ga in reply to

i knew you are bifield... i was implying that you're not a full brit - if you use tea bags... i meant that in a playfully snobbyish joking way....

i'm well aware that most brits by far, probably use tea bags!

just having some fun w/ ya :)

in reply to 13ga

I am born and bred in Bristol in the South West of England. You are right, leaves taste far better than bags but bags are more convenient for me personally. Don't panic about joking, I have a dry sense of humour and not everyone gets it!

13ga profile image
13ga in reply to

hi bifield...

i appreciate all that info! especially making a pot of tea - i only make tea by the cup, since i'm the only one this side of the pond that drinks it... ok- there are a few of us!! :-) i particularly liked the "1 for the pot" comment!! very amusing... i do tend to prefer stronger drinks.

only 1 issue...

if you're only putting a drop of milk in the cup - why put any at all?? surely that little milk can't make a difference!

oops - i lied... 2nd issue...

how can tea taste better depending on the container?? unless your talking glass vs metal.... i assume proper tea would be served in a proper china vessel.... and presuming such to be true... how can it taste different dependent on the shape of said vessel?

as for spirits... i like most... but i definitely prefer gin over vodka! (except in my bloody mary)

"fru fru" drinks are high on my list! (those are the ones typically w/ umbrella's in them)

scotch is another i'm partial to.... single malt please... i'm a bit snobby bout my scotch! love the islays!!! mmmmmm goood.

in reply to 13ga

I don't know why it tastes better from a tea cup rather than a mug, it just does (personal preference I guess. I only have a small amount of milk myself and yes, it does change the flavour. I always have skimmed milk, the semi skimmed tastes too fatty to me. The cup, always china :). I don't drink spirits very often, usually if I am on holiday. I really don't like whisky of any description, tastes like dirty water to me. I don't know what 'fru fru' is I am afraid, sorry. Looks like you are describing Cocktails? With alcohol, I would prefer a nice pint of best bitter or real ale for me. Not keen on Lager, love the scrumpy :O

13ga profile image
13ga in reply to

hey bifield... you don't need to be afraid of 'fru fru' drinks ;-) :) :)

yes - usually cocktails with some kind of fruit flavor, or actual fruit floating in the drink.

real men drink fru fru drinks!!! ;-) lol (yes, i know that i hold a minority position on this opinion!! )

on the cup vs mug issue... i don't doubt you taste a difference...but that's clearly all in your head! not saying there's anything wrong with that, mind you.

as for beers - i definitely prefer ales!!! especially the darker ones... on this we agree... guess that makes me a bad representative of america!! seems most of my fellows prefer the watery "panther piss" variety! :o)

ales are sooo much more interesting to drink... so much variety in flavor.

most lagers are just carbonated water with yellow tinge and some alcohol. there are some i can tolerate, but mostly they're just a bottle/can decoration for your hand!!! :) :) :) they are good for watering plants tho!! hehheh

Hey, all you knowledgeable folk: Does anyone know what a White Lady comprises? Rather an old fashioned cocktail, gin based I think though I might be wrong. Only read of, as in "...the life-saving W.L. before dinner", in one of Molly Keane's ( /M. J. Farrell) entertaining novels of Anglo-Irish life round the turn of the (20th) century.

I have had a life-long love affair with a root beer float. since my diabetes, I can no longer indulge, I have made them with sugar-free root beer and very low sugar ice cream but not the same. For those of you who can indulge the trick is to fill a tall glass with vanilla ice cream add root beer slurp the good stuff and keep adding root beer until all the ice cream is gone and it no longer fizzes!! Ah, yum. This was very popular when I grew up in New England (about a thousand years ago).

I drink Some Alcoholic Drinks, though Not Many.... Depending on my Mood, Beer, Larger, Cider- very occasionally Wine... perhaps at new year Whisky, Rum, or similar.

I also, very much, like Fresh Orange & Lemonade or Squash, with Lemonade- or Soda Water. I don't like either Iced tea, or Coffee (Yuck!).

I used to have some Chinese Jasmin Tea but it went 'Off', after many years. One of the Inns, that Near some friends, used to have 'Gun Powder tea.... which was Larg(er) leaves Rolled Into Balls, a Very good flavour indeed.

I could add, things like 'Pimm's on the Right Sort of day, a Brandy/ Whisky- if it's Freezing Cold, Horlicks/ Hot Chocolate- Very Occasionally.... and so on.

Or just Join The Children....with a Cold Glass Of milkπŸ˜‹
