Unfortunately I have breathing difficulties and do not partake in exercise

Girtonian profile image
Girtonian in reply to bevanboy

You could try singing for breathing. I run a class which is meeting online (Zoom). Some of the members are on oxygen etc, but all find it helpful and fun. We are normally in Cambridge UK but distance is no object at the moment! There are other leaders with groups around the country, many are meeting online - the BLF website has a list. PM me if you would like more info.

2 x 1 hour dog walks, daily. Just like normal! Dog runs, I walk.

A back support to help my posture, another one where you lie on the floor and it arches your back slightly, it's got 3 different levels.

Jennymary profile image
Jennymary in reply to

Please may I ask what back support you've got, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my spine last year, when I had a hospital appointment earlier this year, before lockdown, I'm now under 5 ft whereas I've always been about 5ft 2, consultant thinks I may have lost height due to my posture

in reply to Jennymary

It's called vokka posture support for men from Amazon. I found the ones for men had better support. To start off with you wear it for 20 minutes and build up. I use it while going out for a short walk or while I'm watching TV. I must admit it has really helped. I have something going on at the top of my spine, spondylitis and degeneration of the facet joint so my back is really sore all the time and it does ease the soreness. Hope you manage to get something sorted. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx โค๏ธ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’œ

Hi

That is so true. My mobility wasn't great before lockdown. I have a walking stick plus a 3 wheeled walker with a seat which is fab . How are you feeling tonight? I'm in 24/7 pain because of my many conditions which cause me pain and usually have an hour or less sleep per night due to pain.

I was hit by a car last year so being near the roads is a problem for me. I tried once to go out for a walk. A small bird got hit and killed by a car not 10ft from where I was standing. I know it's just bad luck and not likely to keep happening, but seriously?! I'm going to stick to just going out when I have to! I now have a treadmill.

No equipment but I used a free Curtis Adams video for 'seniors in lockdown',that was recommended by a member on another forum. I was suffering the double whammy of recovering from major surgery and being in the shielding group so I couldn't go for my usual long walks (I live in London, no deserted places to walk here) I found his videos really good and was overjoyed when I was able to progress from soup cans back to my dumbells.

I so enjoy this site from here in the US. My 1st exercise of the day is to check the uplifting posts after feeding the cats. I've exercised almost every day for 43 years. Until 18 years ago, I ran half and hour every day. I blew two disks and after surgery switched to walking for an hour. With PD, walking became more difficult. So I added stationary bike. Most days now I do a half hour walk and a half hour on stationary bike. Plus 20 minutes of stretches given to me by Chiro and OT working with my movement disorders specialist.
