Hi Maddie HU

I totally agree, it's the simple things like watching the world go by whilst enjoying a nice cup of coffee with a friend 🌻

With a permanent lung condition, apart from family i will still seek to actively socially isolate myself so I guess reading, internet browsing and hobbies (from home) will be my main activities

Same here, I’ve had a splenectomy so I’m still being careful. Hoping the bike racing season will get off the ground soon, at least that is outside and we can socially distance. Will just be nice to get out.

I like motorsports too (assume that's the type of bike racing you're referring to) spent many a happy weekend at Snetterton

Fredders profile image
Fredders in reply to The-perfect-storm

Yes, we spent 23 years marshalling at bike meetings all round the country but started off with Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Lydden. Now Cadwell is our nearest circuit but still go to a lot of the circuits to watch British Superbikes. When we did Snetterton we still used the long circuit with the hairpin by the A11 - great days 😺

Because I suffer from bad anxiety, I'm always nervous in going out, because I'm afraid of seeing people, so I get my exercise early in the morning when theirs no one about.

Elfrun profile image
Elfrun in reply to Beautifulrainbow

Hi there I just want you to know there is a way forward and out of your isolating lifestyle, like exercise it takes practice and training but it does work you can overcome your fear, you can overcome your anxieties, you can have happiness and security in your life, have faith in yourself you can do it, lots of help advice online but remember you are the only person who can make your change as I said before it's like exercise, it takes practice little by little and it all starts with a memo to self

I am in charge, I will be happy I will not allow fear to control me

It's a challenge to learn new things I challenge you to learn to be happy we all know you can do it

I am being spoiled changing my morning routine. Get ready for the working day and run to get the bus and tube to arrive in the office by 9 am .

Now I lie in bed Listening to radio and just before 9 am send an e mail for roll call

I have more options for lunch

I sit in the garden working on my laptop

No one to worry about

It is all me

The down side was I was working longer hours Not sticking to finishing hours

I enjoy my work it is bit complicated

Now I log off At 5.30 pm at least

More time to go for a walk house work

Watch countdown

I feel great

Yes definitely hugs have been what I have missed the most. I suffer with anxiety and am lucky enough to have got counselling because of a very bad experience during the first week of lockdown that caused me to have a breakdown. I live on my own and in “normal “ life am a very tactile person with my close friends and family so lockdown has been awful.

I have now got a “Bubble” with my best friend and family which has given me an amazing boost 😁

CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to HissingSid

Ive been lucky that i live in countryside on a park ang been able to walk Archie every day not bump into anyone and listen to the birds, which are chirping away at moment cos one built a nest in my jasmine bush. But a day away sounds good.

HissingSid profile image
HissingSid in reply to Craftyperson

I have to walk a few miles now before I reach the countryside as my local area has become totally urbanised since I was a child. If I catch a train or bus I can soon be miles away from home where I’m virtually isolating now. It’ll be nice to walk around somewhere far away and feel safe again after this lockdown period finally ends. 😊

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to HissingSid

I'm so glad I don't live in Leeds anymore it idea green city with lots of parks and open spaces and countryside on doorstep but much harder to distance I should imagine. And I'd hate to be in London and or in a high rise block of flats or even worse both. I hope you get to enjoy your day in countryside soon

HissingSid profile image
HissingSid in reply to Craftyperson

i live about 12 miles from Edinburgh and that is as close as I would like to be. Edinburgh is nice to visit but I'd hate to stay in the city itself or any other city for that. Like you the thought of being in a high rise flat abhors me as I couldn't live knowing people are above, below and either side of me. Noises at all times of day and night too. Plus it is dearer to live in a city.

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to HissingSid

Yes when my partner died everyone said why don't you come back to Leeds we'd only been here 18 months but I couldn't have afforded it on my own and love being away from everything.

I've been to Edinburgh twice and yes packed especially princess st. Nice place to be near though

HissingSid profile image
HissingSid in reply to Craftyperson

I’ve not been to Edinburgh since lockdown began but I’ve seen plenty pics of empty streets there. This lockdown has been photographers’ dream taking pics in places with no tourists or locals in sight. I was there on 20 March when pubs, theatres and restaurants closed and I was glad to get home before buses went off the road. Not so good when you rely on public transport to get around.

volvox45 profile image

volvox45 profile image
volvox45 in reply to JaneFinn

Thank you, that's very sweet! Alas, no the changes will make no difference as I already go walking-at-a-distance with one friend at a time, and people I might like to "bubble" with are a bus or train ride away! It's doing my own shopping I need, rather than constantly stressing about getting deliveries and running out of things and having to ration myself. As for buying clothes – I do that online! Three beautiful summer dresses so far (have to keep morale up somehow!) x

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to volvox45

A friend of mine very vulnerable and told she musnt sit in her own hagarden even but have window open. She said would go potty if did that and as other side of her road is the beach, behind open fields and houses either side of her holiday homes she was sitting in back garden for a bit. I'm glad your go agreed you could go out and its not as if you're going to go crazy and go out in busy times etc. Another friend who lives in London in a flat is shielding and she started going out at midnight to avoid people and get some fresh air. You will be free someday

in reply to Craftyperson

I think the stress of only staying indoors, would weaken immunity by itself.

So its great your friend did go outside.

There is no evidence that sitting alone in a garden compromises you. Because Covid is chiefly passed from human to human.

I will be terrified of going to work on a Tesco checkout, so atm see no positives. Am enjoying the seclusion and my garden xx

nicholson27 profile image
nicholson27 in reply to leo60

Hi, my Mum is 82 and believe it or not works 3 days a week on the checkout at her local Sainsbury’s. She self isolated for the 12 weeks as advised by the government which she was paid for but as this has ended she was expected by Sainsbury’s to return to work which she did last week.

To be fair to them they are trying to keep the checkout staff safe as they are behind a screen, have hand sanitizer and masks if they want to wear them. The customers are also instructed to keep social distance which they do for the most part. The main danger for her is handling so many objects that have been touched by others so being diligent with the hand gel is the most important thing.

As far as I know the measures taken for the staff are pretty much the same in all of the big supermarkets soTesco probably have screens etc in place but I understand why you are worried and wish you well if and when you return to work.

leo60 profile image
leo60 in reply to nicholson27

Oh my! What a lady your mother is! I am wondering at Sainsbury’s requiring her to be back at work already when shielding has been extended to 30.7?!

I have to say Tesco have been really good, well my managers have anyway, though they are surprised by my reluctance to go back!

I know their precautions are at top level, but still I worry: I can’t wear a mask due to COPD, the hand sanitiser has wrecked my skin and haven’t used any since March (!) and I worry about the aircon, it seems to redistribute germs at the best of times!

Anyway, I keep telling myself not to worry because we will be in lockdown again by then xx

nicholson27 profile image

In my opinion the government has gone way too far too fast with their easing restrictions and even a blind man can see it is driven by economics and not a desire to protect the public. Many people are already acting as though nothing is wrong. You have only to look at the scenes on beaches recently for proof of this.

Any of the things listed here are likely to lead to me contracting the virus and as I am in the extremely vulnerable group this is likely to lead to death so I will not be venturing out to risk my life for a haircut or to watch a film.

My wife works in the local A&E as a nurse and the overwhelming opinion among the staff there is that the rapid lifting of restrictions will soon result in a second wave and many more deaths.

Sorry to be so negative but I think it is better to be realistic.

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbits in reply to nicholson27

No it's true there will be a second wave they've said it all along and as I live near a seaside town I've seen what the beaches like so I won't be going our as much as usual, i can already see town much busier and parks not open yet

leo60 profile image
leo60 in reply to nicholson27

Hello again nicholson27!

I couldn’t agree more! The figures we are fed by the government vary considerably from others available, I don’t know where their science comes from, but the letter to the BMJ from all the top doctors, clinicians and health bodies says it all “ while the future shape of the pandemic in the UK is hard to predict, the available evidence indicates that local flare ups are increasingly likely and a second wave a real risk “. That’s on the same day as further relaxations were made and distancing halved! Boris said on same day something along the lines of I don’t think a second wave is likely at this time. Really??!!

The R rate where I live is 0.9 (ZOE), so yes, under 1, but only just!

As a p.s. Has anyone seen the pictures of Bournemouth beach this morning?! Rubbish! Piles of it! Just shows the mentality of the people there yesterday! Inconsiderate morons🤬 I hope they all got sunburnt 😘

Please stay safe all xx

Midori profile image
MidoriVisually impaired in reply to nicholson27

I do agree, I too was a nurse, although now retired and disabled, and the way the public is behaving is ridiculous; as if Covid 19 has gone away! It hasn't, its lurking around the corner waiting to strike again, and if its anything like the Spanish Flu the second wave will be far worse, because it will have mutated, and become adapted to infect us more easily..

I think we are storing up problems for ourselves by easing so fast and allowing folk to ignore the precautions.

Cheers, Midori

I dont think anyones being "forced" to go out especially if they are vulnerable. Its advice to follow and do whatever you're comfortable with. Tesco is my go-to Supermarket. It has put in place stringent measures to keep the staff and shoppers safe. The only thing I would add is gloves, so that handling the stock as it comes through the till is safer for you.

My local Tesco has separate entrance and exits, and trolley spraydown and cleaning, hand sanitisers, a one way system. and a good queue management system to avoid queues at individual checkouts. Only alternate checkouts are being used. I can understand if you work at an Express, where it is harder to instigate all the safety measures.

cheers, Midori

I need to go and view a few places, with a view to moving house. I also like driving into the countryside. Apart from that, I don't have a lot of contact with my family, so nothing changes there. I don't need any new clothes, or a haircut, as I have been doing my own hair, and shall continue to do so. Most of my local amenities have, or are being closed down, unfortunately. Why get used to doing more activities, as at the flick of a switch, they could all be closed down again. I have completely lost all trust in our government now, so I have learnt to trust myself more.

I went out with my dog for 10 minutes this morning for the first time since the end of March. I am fortunate to have a garden so shielding has been OK. I am now looking forward to my new date of August 1st

#1 Getting to hug, and kiss my family, and loved ones for as long as we want without worry. #2 Being able to attend, and worship at my church services 3 times a week again. #3 I miss going out dancing at my Oldies, but Goodies dance locations, and rollerskating with friends.

Looking forward to not being restricted to shopping once a week but to go to local store for a top up if I run out/or forget to order something. My partner acts as if I'm running a restaurant.

Getting a decent haircut would be nice. I need to be sure it's done safely so no rush.

Also catching up with cycling buddies and riding in a peloton safely. This may be some

way off though. Drinking, eating out, cinema and theatre not bothered about mainly

because I am teetotal, don't really enjoy eating out. As for cinema and theatre, very rarely !

What did you say "boring old sod", well "no" very happy with my lot thankyou.

Also be great to catch up with the family under "normal" conditions again I fear this is

some way off. Remember we have to try and prevent a second wave of covid -19 but by the

way people folks are gathering on our beaches there is very little chance of this.

Take care all and be safe !!

Continue with safety precautions, such as wearing mask, washing hands, using hand sanitizer when I go to grocery store. Basically, staying inside as much as possible. The pandemic seems to be getting worse as things open up.

I ticked "other" cos I'm staying locked down for a good few months more. This relaxation of restrictions is at best, a load of nonesense, and at worst, a severe threat to anyone who has underlying health issues - this covid stuff kills! They seem to concentrate on reporting the number of deaths every day, and I conceed that is coming down. But the more important measure is the number of new infections every day, and that is still hovering around 1000. That's 7 thousand new infections per week, or 28,000 per month, and that's just the ones we know about. I'm preparing for a new outbreak just like the SAGE guys advised us in their last briefing - they were extremely guarded in that announcement. And opening up all these unneccessary social venues like: pubs, cinemas, restaurants, etc is just asking for trouble - I don't trust the general public to be cautious. New Zealand had a new outbreak 8wks after they erradicated the virus from their country - ironically they let someone in from London. Wuhan had a spike, so too did S.Korea and Germany is still struggling. I just wish Boris was more like Jacinda Ardern in his handling of the virus - we had a feeble, weak lockdown and it came far too late. We could've erradicted the virus by now and be fearlessly back to full strength with the economy - with little or no chance of reinfection. But no... they say we have to live with it for months to come...tut! Be highly cautious everybody - and if you must go out, then take care of yourselves.

Silverfox2 profile image
Silverfox2 in reply to Brantuk

Exactly. I'm with you on this. I really don't know why they are doing this unless they want to infect more of us.

cycleman73 profile image
cycleman73 in reply to Silverfox2

Economics is the short answer ! When the second wave comes it will be far worse

plus the Country cannot afford further financial support for any sector. Be very careful,

be very, very careful, continue distancing and stay safe and well. There are hard times

ahead without a doubt !!

Silverfox2 profile image
Silverfox2 in reply to cycleman73

Exactly. Nothing has changed. If you're vulnerable you still will be and the virus will still be just as deadly.

Midori profile image
MidoriVisually impaired in reply to Silverfox2

It's likely to be worse, as it will have mutated into a form which is easier to infect us, as was shown by the Spanish Flu 102 years ago. The second wave was far deadlier than the first, and, being a virus, antibiotics can't attack it.

Silverfox2 profile image
Silverfox2 in reply to Midori

Thats why I don't get why people on here aren't saying they're going along with this new outbreak of insanity? Nothings changed except it looks like the figures for deaths are starting to rise agin. Sometmes look around and feel I'm in a mad house....

It reminds me of "Yes Prime Minister" where PM's advisor is encouraging the

older ones to "Smoke", as death will come sooner and the savings from the State

Pension will be simply enormous. Well it's the same with Covid-19 deaths, the State avoid the Pensions. It's well worth sacrificing the old ones simply for the financial

savings. Not nice..... but true !!

Swimming is a no no because of changing facilities apparently too much chance of infection.

Make do with loads of cycling and running, that'll keep you in tiptop condition! Good luck.

I may get a deferred house repair or two done. Perhaps risk a trip to the hardware store at some point. As things have already opened up (to some extent) here in California & corona cases have been rising in suit, I’m afraid it is going to be same old, same old for me.
