Already rearranged our spring cottage holiday, hopefully we can go next year! 🏡

Nothing planned at the moment - some home meals with other family members at most. Coffee with friends??? Perhaps some day trips in the autumn if matters improve considerably - even the day trips are open to question for the moment - we might consider a holiday cottage if there is much reduced risk associated.

in reply to G1llHa1n

What we decided to do is not plan any day trips at the present time to save ourselves the upset of them getting cancelled so decided the best thing to do for now is not bother!

Perhaps in the future we will see about doing them

For now until I hear otherwise we decided to save ourselves the upset and not bother planning any trips for the foreseeable future but if things change then I will do the things like day visits again but for now no just to save ourselves the upset of it getting cancelled

Hoping to take in some sea air at our holiday lodge if we are allowed out of course. The site is closed at present but if it opens in July am still wary about going.

I put day trips but if at all possible I want to go to Cornwall to see my daughter and grandson.

We have nothing booked as hubby is awaiting a postponed heart ablation and we’ve no word of when it will be yet. Hopefully get a few day trips and possibly a stay in a holiday cottage once it is safe to do so.

I think I would be too frightened to go on holiday now therefore be at home is more safe for me as I have other health issues ,so not to be unfortunately 😐

Like everyone else I’ve had my wings clipped this year.... planning Australia for next year but in the meantime it’s going to be exploring the UK

I'm very lucky as where we live here in Spain is what many would consider an ideal holiday. So we will stay put. Some of our friends have holiday lets and have cancelled all bookings this year so maybe choice will be a bit limited as well.

We are on permanent holiday so stay safe at home as usual !

But next year, if all works out, we fancy a trip on one of the Spanish luxury trains. Sort of Orient Express in Spain. Look amazing and we have so little travel while I got my hips fixed, then just as I'm better this happens! Really hoping.

My family and friends live very close by which is a major plus

Booked last year. Hope we can still go. End of September

Like Margaret I am staying put at my home in Spain. Dog and I might take a drive down to the seaside (60km) a couple of times in September (no way I'm budging further than local shops even yet) - there's a nice bar by the dog friendly beach for a cool diet cola - apparently Andalucia is now open for movement so there's a few places I could go.

I have my little pool, my suntrap terrace plus all the comforts of home (obviously). I was supposed to go to Toronto this August but that's off, I had thought of going to Auckland in October but that's off - my kids moved a long way from home

Apart from the pandemic - the older I get the less I like travelling

in reply to oldwomaninpain

That's disappointing isn't it when you are looking forward to things only to have them cancelled at the last minute.

That's why when I saw things getting cancelled hand over fist back in march when this started was to save myself the upset and not bother and focus on the things that hadn't been cancelled.

margaretpaloma profile image
margaretpaloma in reply to oldwomaninpain

I'm right near the beach, Took a walk along the paseo last week, people were being very sensible, social distancing, wearing masks, so we felt safe to enjoy it. But we are a very small place. Considering taking lunch down this week.

I understand Andalucia has recommended all ferias are cancelled. I am wondering what San Juan will be like. ( For everyone else San Juan marks the official start of summer, people spend the night on the beach, making bonfires, partying and taking a dip at midnight)

Can't think l of anything I would want to do less than sit in a plane at the moment

My immediate neighbors have left the area. It is so quiet here, it is like it was 25 years ago when I first moved in. Same holds true for the air quality now. No need to go anywhere as staying at home is like a going back in time vacation of sort, minus the pampering. Although food is now being delivered to the house.

I will hopefully be able to fly to America to spend Xmas with our Son and family! Had my June vacation with them cancelled!

Have a villa holiday in Greece booked for early September but don’t know if it will be cancelled. Quarantine for 14days makes it pointless.

Will only go away if we consider it really safe. Certainly not overseas until there is a vaccine for blood cancer patients.

HissingSid profile image

I like going abroad within Europe mostly but with current restrictions in place and mandatory quarantine for 14 days on return it’s not worth it. I do also like holidays within U.K. but all hotels and most leisure facilities and amenities are closed so that’s not an option either.

Should have been on Queen Mary, transatlantic cruise, given a couple of options decided to re arrange for next year but wouldn't do cruise in the foreseeable future. Have decided to cancel and lose deposit but, having difficulty with teavel agent. Still awaiting confirmation of this. My favourite part of the world, Scotland, holiday cottage booked for Autumn, don't know if that will go ahead. Main thing to stay safe and give thanks for our many blessings.🌻

Hopefully we'll be able to have a short break with family,(It's booked ) but we'll wait and see.We will be entitled to a refund if can't go.It's in uk

My husband and I always go on day trips. These are not always long journeys, but just to reach our local green belt areas. As for renting a cottage, we may do this in a fairly local area too, somewhere like Shropshire. Everything depends upon this present Covid situation, and what we are able to manage.

My wife and I are going fishing when we get the time, This does not have anything to do with CV-19 stay-at-home.

We have a Static Caravan on the coast plus we have a touring caravan

Til there are good treatments and preventives out there, I need to stay pretty much isolated. My "day trips" are very rare, but I feel fortunate to be able to make them: They consist of going a few miles to a barn to take care of horses (almost no people around), or driving a couple miles to a meeting point to sketch with another friend who is at risk. However we use our own cars, keep our distance, drink our tea, and chat. That's pretty much going to be it. Thinking ahead to the "family" type holidays - well, I don't have family much, and the friends I usually do Thanksgiving with are actually not as careful, so I need to have something in mind so I don't hurt their feelings when I turn them down. One thing I am looking forward to is going out to pick wild greens with a friend (also pretty sensitive to this stuff). We'll be keeping our distance I guess. But I've figured that whatever anyone else does, I'm doing distancing til I know there are reliable treatments, not just because big or small business says they need the money. (Especially because our local small businesses rabbleroused during the demonstrations, resulting in some guys with guns going up on the roof across the street from the vigil gathering in my town.)

Haven't had a holiday for about 15 years. Could do with one, but with the Corona virus do not think it is wise

I've picked day trips and holiday cottage. We had booked a holiday last year for this September and unless it's cancelled by the company we'll be staying in Derbyshire in a log cabin.

Personally I think this is fairly safe as the site is in the middle of the country and we stay there so we can go walking in the beautiful countryside.

I am considered as vulnerable so I'm afraid I can't see me going anywhere until this is all over!

I said "staying at home", because I don't take holidays. I have a limited income, and there are so many wonderful travel programmes, nature documentaries on TV - I can see as much of the world as I want to "on holiday" at home! (I grew up in a forces family, so we moved every 2-3 years with my father's job - I've never wanted to travel at all since I've lived independently. I have been to Australia twice but that was because I had a long-term partner who is Australian, but that's it really.) I have 3 cats, and I'm devoted to them. I would have to put them into a cattery because I don't know anyone who could look after them, even if I felt that would be a road I'd like to go down. Catteries are fiendishly expensive.

It's just lovely for me to be at home, with my cats, enjoying my books and music, or a trip to the cinema if I really want to get out of the house. I love seeing people and getting about when it's not too demanding on me physically, but essentially, I really am an introvert, and my home is my sanctuary.

had a cruise to Norway booked for July for my 60th, but it was cancelled. It would be nice to get out again and visit/stay with friends, and also booked a pullman train day trip, which has been postponed, so lots to look forward but no dates.

Nothing planned Not allowed out and will probably get a recurrence of some restrictions anyway . Not very mobile anyway. Already R indicator is over 1 in NW and what will these protests do to raise infection ratings . A cruise around UK would be ok but would not want to get stuck on ship with i infection spreading, and not welcome in any port like last spring

if the quarantine is abolished if coming back from abroad is lifted we may try and get a winter break in Thailand or Bali, if not then we have friends in Glasgow and may spend a few days or weeks with them

Staying at home has become a political issue.

I'm going to give it a miss this year and see how things are next year , I would imagine that most holidays will be expensive next year as they will try and recoup some of the money they have lost this year .

in reply to

Same as with us we have decided to save ourselves the disappointment and not bother for this year although we were gutted for the poor people who's actual holidays have been cancelled though.

in reply to

I thought you might need one after putting up with them noisy neighbors . I hope they didn't come back x .

in reply to

They came back but have been subdued though after that carry on so haven't caused anymore bother as I think that frightened them when the police came round!

We've had 2 cancelled already...so not going to bother to book anything else...lost our Insurance on each holiday!

I am a little puzzled by the option of staying/partying with friends and relatives - does this mean we will soon be allowed to be inside houses/cottages/whatever with friends/relatives whom we don't normally live with ?? As I don't think we are currently allowed to even have a coffee anywhere inside with anyone out of own household ??

rachelmi profile image

I’ve nothing booked but have been home so much that going outside is quite a big deal. I’ve just met up with some friends down by the river but I was uneasy even though they were socially distancing. I declined when they asked if I wanted to move closer! 😂 all feels very scary still as I don’t know what to believe about the government infection rates. I don’t think I will be going very far this year, certainly not abroad and as I live in the SW I have beaches fairly close. I’ve been thinking see to seeing people on zoom rather than in person!,

All very if and maybe. I'm hoping my sister will be able to come and stay. A couple of family things, a day trip or two ? But, realistically my vulnerable self ain't going anywhere, anytime soon.

I heard today that if you're asymptomatic for the corona virus you won't receive the virus ( that's people you're with)

I , personally, will keep my distance & wear a face mask!! When will a vaccine be here??? Afterall, the whole world is working on it .Oh well....

God bless🙏

I hope so too as we have our Caravan booked into a Caravan Site near Cromer In September time which we booked & paid for last year. Just checked on the website. The Caravan & Motorhome club say they are planning a phased reopening of their campsites in England from July 4th. So looks as though this date is still in place.

Rosepetal60 profile image

Have caravan booked in a Caravan Club site for a holiday in Norfolk near the sea, late September. Short on energy these days as I haven’t had any Acupuncture treatment for over 3 months so my “batteries” are getting low. But that doesn’t matter in Caravan as can do Hobbies. And keep the distance outside or go for a drive in the car.

My booked holiday was supposed to happen last month but of course it was cancelled and then the company went into administration. It’s the only holiday company I’ve used in years - I only started having holidays again, after about twenty years of staying home, a couple of years ago so no idea how or when I’ll go on my next one!

in reply to ArctoLindy

That happened to me years ago when a coach company called diamond holidays based in Swansea went bust!

Thankfully I had lots of notice that I wouldn't be going for that booked holiday but I was sorry for those who had found out right at the last minute without any kind of warning though.

Word to the wise always pay for holidays by credit card and should the worst happen you are covered under their chargeback scheme like we were when that happened but you aren't if you pay by cash or cheque.

Thankfully I did pay by credit card and was advised to go through them for a refund, which I managed to get sorted out last week 👍

Live on an island that has a mix of full-time residents/ weekenders and summer people. Our county is now in phase 2- so all of a sudden lots of tourists- because they feel it is a safe place. Mixed feelings about influx of visitors- it is nice to see familiar weekenders- but the tourists dont seem to respect our efforts to keep our island safe-
