Hello everyone. Im new at posting here. Im 24 yrs old and 9 weeks postpartum with my second child. For the past 4 weeks I have been having all kinds of strange symptoms. It started out of nowhere with tingling all over my body and weakness which freaked me out and went to the ER. They did blood work, ekg, urine sample, all normal. My bp was a bit high though. They ended up telling me it was anxiety and gave me ativan to relax. The next day i started felling it again and it hasnt gone away since and now all kind of new symptoms have shown up. Constant chest pain, head preassure and headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, ears feeling plugged and my hands falling asleep during the day. I hae been so miserable and scared that there is something seriously wrong with me but drs keep telling me its axiety/panic attacks. I've never had anxiety before. I feel as though my family doesn't understand what im going through. And i feel I'm not being a great mom and wife because this is consuming my life. I just want to feel better. I try to convince myself that there's nothing wrong with me and ignore it but it's so hard when I'm felling this almost 24/7. Is anyone out there going through this?? Please help

I had very similar symptoms which started when my baby was 3 weeks old. He's almost 8 months now and a lot of the symptoms have got better although I still get some dizzy feelings and my hands sometimes go numb at night.

I have been diagnosed with health anxiety although I am convinced I've only got this because of the scary physical symptoms I had.

What has helped me is having regular back and neck massages as the constant lifting etc meant by muscles were really tight which can cause a lot of the symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon and try not to worry xx

Hello and welcome

Your story is exactly like mine was after I had my second child. PNI for me started off with physical symptoms - pribs with my eyes which were sensitive to light , my eye sight worsened , headaches, tingling / numb patches over my body which would change, extreme tiredness and a feeling of being constantly spaced out. Like you I had a whole host Of tests which were fine, so it's pisitive you've been checked over as thyroid isdues for example can make u feel ill too.

It took a long time for me to accept that it was pni- by that time my anxiety had spiralled out of control . It's horrible and takes its toll on u when u feel so unwell without explanation .

For me anti depressants turned things around but that's a decision for u and Dr. However try relaxation techniques - this can remove some of these symptoms. Exercise helped me hugely as well. The endorphins can get rid of some of symptoms as well as burn off that nervous energy.

Do keep talking as its a tough time but u will get thru it x

Hi just looking for updates as I'm dealing with the exact same symptoms. I am now 7 months postpartum. Although the symptoms aren't as severe as before they are still present. All my test results were normal at the height of my symptoms at 1 month postpartum. Just looking for answers.

Hi. I would say my physical symptoms started at the same time 1 month postpartum and I am now 7 months pp. I have to say it's not as bad as before. But it was so bad I thought I was going to die. This is my first child and I'm very healthy. It totally caught me off guard I think it's definitely hormones. But I do think food and exercise play a role. I feel I have bad days when I think I feel sick and it won't get better and when I get too stressed. but I'm sure in time we will feel 100%. Hope ur feeling better

Curious to know if anyone found answers? Was it hormonal imbalance?

Yes! Just know you are not alone. That in itself was a huge help for me. I've had some anxiety panic attacks before I had children but never like I have the last 3 weeks. It's like a constant anxiety attack. It like you started with weird symptoms, numbness in my calfs and heavy tingling and sornness in my hands and for arms. I am usually a healthy normal person, workout nearly everyday and these last 3 weeks I've had really sore muscles and tiredness. Went to dr had blood drawn nerves test done and going to have an MRI next week. All the test so far have been normal. My OB said it was anxiety, either postpartum or just plain anxiety.

I don't have anything for a magic fix, but I will say knowing that it's not just you and that you will be through this, for me is comforting enough.

I have a very strong Faith in the Lord that this will be His battle to fight and I just let it go, reading my bible and hearing uplifting music helps tons!

This after a straight night of heart beating out of my chest anxiety and could not sleep but maybe only 3 hours.

I'm trusting I will get through this in Gods timing and trusting Him.

Praying for you and hoping for a full recovery!

Join “Postpartum Neurological Issues” on FB. Many have similar symptoms, most all starting shortly after delivery. Some had a virus/infection/vaccination in the postpartum period prior to the onset of symptoms; others, it may be hormonal, etc.

Hi I m a member and it’s a fantastic group. Have you suffered from symptoms postnatally? How are you now?

Ahh ok, excellent. I’m not 21 months postpartum (symptoms began around 2-3 weeks postpartum). I’m MUCH better now, but still have odd sensations here or there (numbness/tingling/occasional fasiculation, etc.), but overall, has improved with time. The big part of that is probably my anxiety due to all of it has gone way done, so I’m not so hyper focused on every little sensation, and that’s helped tremendously.

Great to hear things have vastly improved. Do you know what was the trigger? What helped you?

In my case several things were going on post natally - I was worried about my eldest’s health and was hugely catastrophising, I’d had two miscarriages so the pregnancy was stressful and I ran myself into the ground trying g to achieve some ridiculous goal of being perfect . It set off some sort of chain reaction from of physical symptoms which became an obsession. Like you once I stopped focussing and thanks to antids things got better x
