Reinstatement of Pred prescription

Having followed a 7-week taper from 1mg to 0.75mg with no obvious problems I had what I assume was a flare during the 3rd night of my 7th week (every day 0.75mg). I wakened at 3am with extreme pain across my shoulders, down both arms and very painful hands with total numbness in my right ring finger and middle finger. I took two paracetamol and after no relief at all an hour later had some yoghurt and took the 0.75mg for that day, still no relief, so I spent a very miserable fourth day of the taper. In the early evening, after eating, I decided to take a 5mg Pred and had an early night. The pain, stiffness and numbness was gone in the morning so I continued with 5mg for another 6 days, then 2.5mg for 7 days and am now back on 1mg daily and feeling fine. This morning I had a telephone appointment with my preferred female GP, who is knowledgeable regarding PMR, and she has reinstated my online Pred prescription. She was very complimentary about PMRGCAUk and has taken a note regarding my experience with the previous GP. Thank you all once again for your invaluable assistance, without which I would probably have had a much worse experience with PMR than I have. I will keep you posted on any further developments.

She sounds like a keeper and so glad you got to speak to her. Hope she educates her colleagues. At 1mg I'd say - stick!!!!

Thank you too, DorsetLady, you will see my reply to PMRpro, and when/if I do decide to attempt a taper to 0.75mg I will do so with the assistance of a 14 week taper.

Ditto, ditto, ditto! I'm so happy you have a responsive Dr. If the prize for -0- pred is pain...why go there? One of my friends took 1 mg for over 20 years and was happy to do so. My best💞
