Dear PMR or Dorset Lady,

I have a number of people on my chat site who are all interested in the health benefits of gardening. As I have given them all access to my site, would they be able to communicate with each other through the site ? Otherwise I will have to pass on the information. I am happy to do this, but the communication would not be as good.

Thank you.

Everyone on your Chat message can read and reply to everything that’s written there.

However if they want to have a one-two-one conversation they will need to set up their own Chat post just to include each other.

Will say, if you have too many people on, it can get a bit confusing at times…. Unless people actually specify who they are reply to..

How do I get access to your Chat site?

bluepuddy needs to invite you -hopefully she will once she’s read your reply…

Hello, You need to go into my profile and then click on Chat. It is just an informal organisation. You can contact me on the site or I can supply you with a list of members who advised of your name will be able to let you into their chat site and talk gardening.

I think you have misunderstood how it would work - YOU need to set up a Chat with all the people who want to join you otherwise you will only have a load of 1 to 1 conversations.

in reply to PMRpro

Dear PMRPro, I have 10 people on my Chat site and have issued a list of participants to them to contact in turn. I would be grateful if you could give me any ideas as to how I could make this work better as the idea was to put people in contact with the other gardeners with polymyalgia, on the site. My aim is not to disappoint, but to give them some relief from their health worries.

DL has given you the instructions - you have a list of names, start a chat and type in the first name and select it from the list that appears - that bit is important. The name will jump to just below, Repeat it with the next name, as you select it from the pop-up list it will join the names below.

Once you have added all the names, you then send them a message which everyone will get and they can reply - everyone will be able to see it.

in reply to PMRpro

Dear PMR,

I have done a list of names and pressed the button for Group. I have chosen the title Garden Talks. I hope this will work. It has appeared on my Chat site.

Thank you.

You might want to read up on messaging under the help section.

Looks as if you can only have 10 in the Chat facility

I can’t link you to it but this is what is says

How do I compose, archive and report chat messages?

As well as writing and responding to public or community posts, HealthUnlocked members can also send private messages to other users through the "chat" functionality.

You can send a private message to another user both from your inbox and from their profile.

Sending from your inbox:

1. Click "Chat" on the top menu. Alternatively, click here to access your private message page

2. Click the "Compose" button in the top right-hand corner of the page

3. In the "To" box, type in the username of the member you want to message and select it from the drop-down menu.

You can add up to 10 recipients for each message

4. Type in your message!

 5. Once it is ready, click the “Send” button

Sending from a members profile:

1. Go to the profile page of the user you want to message. You can do this by clicking on their name beside any of their posts or comments

2. Click the "Message" button on the right hand of their profile banner

3. Follow the steps for "From your inbox" from step

4 Reporting private messages: If you receive a private message you believe to be spam or that is abusive, please report it to us by clicking "Report" situated next to "more" underneath each message.

Reporting private messages are sent to HealthUnlocked only, not accessible to your community admins.

Archive private messages:  To archive a message from showing up in *your* messages inbox, click "Chats" and select the message that you want to archive.

Click on “Archive” and the message/s will be archive. You can only archive the entire conversation and not single messages.

This does not delete your messaging history with that user.

Please note that selecting “Archive” does not remove the message from the other user’s inbox, and does not prevent them from seeing the message.

When you send another message to the same user, your entire message history will once again be shown.

Whoops. At the moment I have 10 people who would like to participate, one follower and the rest are past, no longer valid posts that could be deleted. Would this be alright ? I don’t want to disappoint anybody who has already expressed interest. This all came about, because somebody said to me, how lovely to meet a fellow gardener. I have often engaged in gardening conversations with others on the forum and thought that it was a pity that they couldn’t contact the other gardening people on the forum. Polymyalgia can be so miserable.

You don’t need to delete previous posts/chats nor followers.

But you as the host of a chat/message (whatever you want to call it) can only add 10 people to that particular chat.

Does that make sense?

in reply to DorsetLady

How do I add 10 people to one particular message ? Sorry to be so dumb. At the moment I have only added people to contact and have contacted them on Chat. If I could contact them all together it would be good, or even better if they could contact each other on my Chat site. Could you tell me how to do this ? My intention is to make their lives better, not confuse them.

Hi, I would like to join your group, but it sounds complicated!I've got an allotment. Anyone else grow vegetables?

Yes, being out in the fresh air and sun is the best therapy!

in reply to Blossom20

Dear Blossom20,

The first group is up and running, but is now oversubscribed. Would you be interested in joining a second group ?

in reply to

Please note that you would be interacting with other members within the group.

in reply to Blossom20

Dear Blossom,

It’s not complicated at all. The name of the group would be on my Chat and you would just have to click into that to join the group. As the numbers of partipants are growing the group should be open soon. It’s a lovely way to have your gardening questions answered by other gardeners and share a love of gardening.

OK - to get back to the gardening thing - I did two days solid last week, morning to night, bending in all kinds of ways - I felt much better afterwards than I normally do.

I was diagnosed with PMR over five years ago - try to stay on a low dose of Pred. The gardening was a case of ‘use it or lose it’ - my muscles seem to like it. 🙂

in reply to MaritimeMags

Yes, I agree, I’ve been working hard in the garden, and so far have not had a PMR flare.

Would you be interested in joining a second gardening chat group ? The first is up and running, but cannot take on any more than 10 participants , to solve this I would like to open another one.

in reply to

Please note that you would be interacting with other members within the group, it would not be one to one.

Thank you for the invite bluepaddy but I am not much of a gardener - I just did a ‘big time’ tidy up cutting hedges and grass..

Hello,

I would regard that as ‘true gardening’. Mine has been horribly labour intensive this year. The weeds ! Digging, laying strulch, lawn mowing etc. Neat hedges and grass cutting are necessary for a tidy garden. Our interactive gardening group covers a lot of subjects. As I’ve explained the first interactive gardening group is up and running and is now full. However, you are more than welcome to join the second group.

You can always natter away to me anyway, if you feel like it. 😀
