T-2.4

T score femoral neck-1.3

T score total hip -0.1

Top one is worse, but are the others worse

Previous-1.9 at AP spine

T score at femeral neck and Total hip neck -0.7 and -0.1 respectively

I am disappointed to say the least. But has Dr made it sound worse than it is

Is the top figure you have written just as T-2.4 the lumbar spine reading?

What has the doctor said to make it sound bad? The otherfigures are better than mine!!!

The results indicate low bone density with no significant change in the hip BMD however there is a 6.4% decrease at the spine since the previous attendance in 2919. GP said it shows moving towards osteoporosis.

She said all the scores were worse than before, but I thought 2 of them were better. Just don’t understand .

Thank you for replying

I would dispute LOW bone density - except possibly the spinal readings and even they are not yet officially osteoporosis. The femoral neck readings are nowhere NEAR osteoporosis. They aren't comparable if they were done on different machines. But those are readings that would not convince me to take anything more than calcium and vit D. Definitely NOT bisphosphonates.

I was a bit shocked and agreed to take AA. Making me stressed just thinking about it. I don’t take calcium only Vitamin D and K2.Are the other 2 numbers worse than my 1st Dexa. It was the same machine 😊

They are all indicators anyway - not absolute values. And positioning is crucial and it really can't always be the same. I think bisphosphnates are OTT but that is me.

Why not ask the ROS helpline: Can you manage that on the phone?

Have you included calcium in your blood workup? I’m a bit surprised your doctor hasn’t put you on some calcium supplementation unless you are consuming calcium rich foods in your diet.

Hi there SufferercI too have similar scores. I took PMRpro's advice (for which I thank her again 😊) and rang the Royal Osteoporosis Soc. I spoke to a charming knowledgeable Osteo nurse. Lets face it they must eat, sleep and breath Dexa scores. I gave her an update on my age, health, diet and activity and asked her advice on taking alendronic acid with my scores. I am glad I did, she calmed me down sufficient enoughfor me to make the decisions I needed. Hope this helps.

Thank you. What was your decision please if you don’t mind telling me 😊

Sorry in the delay in responding. After talking to a few people and finally the Osteo nurse and a nutritionist I decided to wait on the alendronic acid. I was advised to try and bump up my intake of calcium through food and drink and try and find a load bearing exercise that suits me. Certainly until my next Dexa scan. I walk and hike quite a bit but I find my joints ache more as i taper down off the Pred. I am still not sure if the Pred is causing aching joints or lack of it by coming down too quickly. Its a bit like spinning plates. I was undecided and nearly opted for a year on Alendronic acid.

Everyone is different and its a difficult decision. Only you know what you can deal with.

Thank you. I have email the ROS as I find the phone difficult. So hopefully we can email to and fro . Thank you for replying 😊
